Thor highlights:

World championship
2 Tour points jerseys
1 Vuelta point jersey
10 Tour stages
4 other GT stage wins
1 Gent-Wevelgem
1 Oploop het whatever
3 national TT championships
3 national road championships

Kristoff highlights:
1 MSR
2 tour stages
2 national road race championships

Kristoff still has a way to go. If he gets either a world title or another monument... he's equal or ahead on 1-day results. But he needs to get another 12-15 GT stage wins and a few point jerseys to be ahead overall. Not sure it's happening.
Kristoff also has a bronze medal in the Olympic road race.

No Norwegian rider will ever best Thor until they have pulled this off :D :

Thanks for compiling that, Kurt. Even though they weren't wins, I'd add his 2nd and 3rd at Roubaix to that as I'd certainly consider those performances to be better and more important than some of the above. I'm sure even Echoes would agree with me there.

That's total BS and you know it, Netserk. Ask any rider if they'd rather have a win in a stage of the Tour of Norway or a 2nd in Roubaix on their palmarès and you know the answer you'd get. [...]

High placings definitely have their place on a rider's palmarès if the race is big enough.

Those two podiums in Roubaix are better than almost any result in Kristoff's current résumé.

Yes, I agree on that. It's even too obvious to be discussed, for me.

You have a 9th place in P-R equal to a stage win in the Tour?

Only wins should count. The absolute most pathetic phenomenon in cycling is riders throwing away their chance for a win for a sure loss. Hushovd in P-R is a prime example of that.

BS. Why points awarded from lesser placings then? Various rider rankings at races, UCI rankings, PCS, CQranking aso aso..why bother? :p

Still, for the riders its reall about the wins. At least, its the wins that will stand in the memory when times passes. Lesser plcings really do not

I think Kristoff will come out better.

Ok, the clowns might turn MSR into another Ardennes race, but 8-10 more years going for RVV and P-R should yield a result or two. Cance and Boonen will decline over this period.

8- 10 years is a very long time in cycling. Some guys stay at their best for such a period of time. Most don't get close to such a number. He's got the form he has now, now. Whether he will have it next year and beyond, we shall see.

I was just looking at noteable wins.

Other finishes of note added (just using my own opinion of what is "noteable"):

Thor highlights:

World championship
2 Tour points jerseys
1 Vuelta point jersey
10 Tour stages
4 other GT stage wins
1 Gent-Wevelgem
1 Oploop het whatever
3 national TT championships
3 national road championships
2 P-R podium
2 MSR podium

Kristoff highlights:
1 MSR
2 tour stages
2 national road race championships
Bronze in olympic road race
1 top 5 in RVV (4th)

He obviously has a ways to go... but he has some years to get there. He did have a top 10 in P-R... so perhaps a couple of podiums down the road aren't out of the realm of possibility.

yep lots of speculation of course. In my mind the time span isn't the biggest issues, rather its the gap to Hushovd's PR record. Kristoff with just one low end top 10 placements and lots of DNFs.

MSR isn't as good as a worlds win? I think there pretty equal, and worlds is like the 6th monument for me.

And MSR is better then GW, Omloop, and the National RR champs (Hushovd's other one day wins.

Now you're deminishing his results ;). Don't forget those epic one day wins in GP Jef Scherens, Haribo Classic, Tour de Vendee and GP Denain. Not to mention Mi-Août 4 and 6.

San Remo + Vlaanderen is a bit below Worlds + 2 green jerseys + Omloop for me, then Kristoff has 4x Frankfurt, Plouay, Scheldeprijs, Hamburg and the Euros to Hushovd's six additional Tour stages, three Vuelta stages + points jersey, and a (retroactive) Giro stage. You'd have to rank Frankfurt (even in its pre-WT days) above a Tour stage to see Kristoffs secondary bracket as being better, so I'd very narrowly give it to Hushovd. Kristoff winning any Omloop-sized race in the remainder of his career would tip the balance for me, though.

Hushovd has a far better record in the Grand Tours but the one day palmares of Kristoff is superior. Also in Hushovds favour, and part of the reason non cycling obsessives may feel warmer towards him, is that he was a pioneer for elite level cycling wins in Norway.

It is a close argument that is ultimately very subjective based on what achievements you rank as harder or more prestigious.

Kristoff secondary bracket also includes Gent - Wevelgem, which is bigger than anything Hushovd has won besides the WC, and 4 Tour stages.

Kristoff also has an olympic medal. Not many people remember this :p

Was thinking about this recently and I'd probably go with Kristoff.

Hushovd record in Tour de France is incredible though and probably why I still consider him a bigger name.
What a collection of victories all in TdF: individual prologues, mass sprints, uphill group sprints, breakaway stages, a mountain stage over the Tourmalet, Champs Elysees and one epic TTT victory which was still in the days of the proper TTT.

EDIT: it's also a moot discussion as Mads Kaggestad is and forever will be the greatest Norwegian cyclist :D

Yeah, if you didn't have Kaggestad on your team in PCM you might as well give up in advance.

I also think Hushovd would have to take this. Especially his exploits in the 2011 Tour were fantastic, I think. Getting yellow early, holding on on the Mur de Bretagne, winning an epic Pyrenean stage into Lourdes and winning in Gap, both in the rainbow jersey.

Kristoff's only really remarkable win to me was Flanders, otherwise he is just too defensive and relying on his sprint, which is fine, but yeah, for me he is just a guy who is always there.

But okay, if things had gone slightly differently in Bergen it would have been hard to argue against him.
