Gesink fans should remember that Evans won a tour. It happens, but you have to wait.

Indeed.

There was 7 (or maybe 11) of us who voted for Evans as the winner of the 2011 Tour de France. And man that was great! :)

I really hope Gesink get back to his old level climbing wise. If he does so, I think he will win a GT. I can also addthat I really hope he does, Gesking seems like a really nice fellow and I can still remember the time he broke his arm in the Tour, the guy is a fighter and I think he will pull through.

Gesink can still make it to 10th but who the f.ck cares. The stage win today would have been so much better. Anyway, he seems to be going slightly better than the weeks before so maybe he'll get another chance at a stage win.

I hope he gets one.

I think he really needs a stage win to get some confidence back. Imagine how frustrating it must be for him to always have something stupid happening.

Only now got around to replying to this thread...

Gotta say it seems less and less likely.
As one of the Eurosport Guys has mentioned a couple of time it's probably got something to do with the fact that he's somewhat of a 'fair weather rider' and doesn't do very well under preassure. Which of course is not the best starting point trying to win a GT.

Guess his team could try and hide the fact that they were riding for him, but I guess he'd figure it out...

I don't think it's the pressure, he looked very focused and ready. He got through the first week without problems. But what these commentators probably don't know is that his leg fracture was really serious and complicated, the worst fracture his doctor had ever seen. Which riders who have broken their upper leg so seriously have ever returned to their previous level? I can't think of many.

Uphill he just struggles way more than before, he always was a suffer specialist but right now he suffers as soon as the roads go up.

It's just the Dutch disease. After Zoetemelk (although he did win 2 GT's) and Boogerd, now they have Gesink.

Zoetemelk won & podiumed GTs. Boogerd won classics. Gesink has done neither. Unfair to compare Gesink to them. Gesink simply isn't three week or one day material. He is one week material:). The day he or his team understands this he will start winning.

If you saw him in Vuelta 2009 he was definately 3 week material. Certainly the way he attacked Valverde on La Pandera.
People forget so easily.

Too bad that Gesink is gone the moment he broke his leg

Corrected ;)

I didn't know he had a thread. Looks like it was abandoned more than 3 years before he won that '16 Vuelta stage at the top of the Aubisque.
