It was pretty obvious he was affected by the cold as he had to be dragged up the mountain by 4 teammates, who he could barely hang on to.

He just failed, that's all. Whatever reason it had. If it was because of cold, what I don't think is necesarily truth, than next he should get dressed more and problem could be solved. Strangely this resolution didn't appear to him...we all are learning I guess.classicomano said:Well your post sounded as if we were just drawing conclusions from watching the tv. But Gesink himself said his legs were frozen so he couldnt do **** in the last climb. And that makes sense seeing how he performed.

“This was a bad day”, Sport Director Jan Boven realised afterwards. “This is not what we had hoped for. In the kilometres leading up to the final climb Robert was suffering from the cold, but because of the high pace he couldn’t change clothes. When the climb started Robert was done within half a kilometre. After that it was all about damage control. The boys waited for him and protected him, but we knew it was trouble when we saw he could hardly follow.”

Poor thing - Life's a cycle, he'll get better luck later on.Afrank said:The ballad of Robert Gesink has to be one of the saddest in pro cycling.![]()

Go soft during the next two stages and then.....

Kokoso said:I've hard time to byu this. He's from Holland, so he knows how cold weather looks like. He's riding in Europe for years. Even Colombians (where I believe wather is really hot generally) are able to cope with these conditions and they are racing here for few years.

Where?
Thank you for explanation. Interesting fact is that Colombians are used to tell that they learnt to cope with European cold. The Hitch said:Colombia is 1 of the most mountainous countries on earth. The cyclists tend to come from above 2000m altitude where the daily highs are around 15-20 degrees and obviously colder at other times of the day and night. Many will in training go up to the tierra fria above 300m where daily highs are sometimes even in the single figures.
+ there is very frequent and heavy rain
So its not as if they are coming from sweltering heat.
There are no guarantees. However, he was the strongest guy in that break. The Hitch said:Just want to point out there is absolutely no guarantee he would have gotten a stage win.
