Hellner! Congratulations! Good tactics by the swedes. Northug unfortunately lost his pole on the last climb.

Again apologies for swamping the thread with live updates, but that was one of the best races I've seen.

Holy Spamming, Batman!

Glad you enjoyed the race though. Just saw a lengthy recap, and it was very exciting. What happened to Northug tho? He just faded incredibly in the last few kms, and I didn't really see what happened.

He lost his pole, if that's the word, on the last climb, and lost a few seconds getting a new one, but honestly, I think it looked like he was close to cracking anyway.

That was cool. Never expected Tuitert to win.
His time was amazing but I thought Davis would come with something special.

Man, Davis must feel like absolute sh!t. Twice he's been the favorite going into the 1500m and twice he's finished 2nd. He's spent the last 6 years dominating this distance and has two silvers to show for it.

On the positive end I hope this motivates him to ride the Team Pursuit, because I doubt he'd want this to be the final thing he feels coming out of these Olympics.

Amazing race by Tuitert, and Håvard also, only 3/100 of a second behind Davis! I bet he's chuffed. I know I am :D

Also, Northug wasn't in a good mood after the 30 km today http://www.adressa.no/sport/article1448259.ece, apparently Hellner stepped on his pole and broke it, he got a new one from a swedish serviceman, but it was too short and when he missed the boat he continued half-arsed. That's supposedly what he said to the coaches. I'm not too sure he would've made it anyway, he didn't look that fresh. In peak condition he'd take that gap back in no time, and just do his best in the sprint even with the wrong equipment.

My feelings exactly. I was totally expecting Tuitert to get his heart broken by an incredible Davis, but it wasn't to be. Fortunately for the Dutch.

Wow, Davis is brooding, he's defintely riding the Team Pursuit. Also, Bøkko looks strangely unhappy, he did a great job, should be really proud; defended the Norwegian honour.

You guys have a far larger population than us... The British live much close to the fascilities, venues and proper alpine snow areas than australia!

One gold medal and you're already running for the hills with your excuses.

Let's face facts - neither nation is a natural winter olympic powerhouse, but the banter is fun (and you seem to be able to take it as well as giving it out, unlike 90% of your compatriots)

His pole was broken for a while I think, he was unsure where he could get a new one so kept losing time, he only got a new one on the very last climb?

Well done to the Swedes.

Well done is right. Great race! I'm pretty pleased to see a couple of young Canadians in the top ten, looks good for the future.

Tuitert - how nice is it to see a guy so amazed to beat a legend? Good for him.

Not an excuse... a fact! Unfortunately some (Timmy Loves Rabo- who lives in Aus) don't see some of my comments as playful banter and to get a reaction.

I think it is because some people have no sense of humor. They take everything so seriously. A lot of them cannot even detect sarcasm when it is as obvious as being slapped in the face with a dead salmon.

I agree totally, it is also annoying when you are taken out of context of and when you get snapped at when you are making a legitimate, fair and on topical comment.

Just read in the Volkskrant that he would not compete in the TP. Today the women's 1500m and the Haut Var final stage.

:confused::confused::confused:

Makes no sense..... Why would he refuse? Does he have something better to do?

It's not like 2006, when a change of heart on the pursuit would've forced the American coaches to deactivate another rider.
