How is that possible though ? Surely the Swiss team were looking for her ?

I know Imogen Wolf said in her crash in the race, someone took her front wheel, and fortunately she only suffered minor injuries from this, but she fell into a ravine and felt like she was falling for ages, then had to climb out of the ravine and chase back on to the race.

Wolff's crash was visible on camera, so I hope assistance would have come to her a lot sooner, if it had been serious, which it fortunately wasn't.

It's an awful time for Swiss cycling recently, losing two riders way before their time, on home roads, in consecutive years. It is really alarming that alarm bells couldn't have been sounded sooner when she was 'unaccounted for' on the road, though, you would have thought that at an event such as this, surely the transponders would have indicated something. But I guess that isn't too dissimilar from what happened with André Drege a few months ago - lost and unaccounted for somewhere along the route between groups on the road. It just feels so strange for a situation like this to even be a consideration in a World Championships, with the circuit race aspect to it.

And if we can't have the hope that Samu had earlier regarding the rescue/discovery time, then we should at least hope that the impact was severe enough for her not to have suffered.

This tragedy has shown that race radios and GPS trackers are needed to help identify riders who are not moving and where they are. My condolences to this poor young woman's family. The UCI and the Swiss Federation have some serious questions to answer.

Swiss tabloid Blick writes now that she might not have been discovered for a long time. If that is the case I hope this accident is investigated in detail.

How is it possible for a Swiss rider, riding at home (she’s literally from Zürich) at a world championship not discovered in timely fashion??? Just incredibly sad. Poor girl. Condolences to her family. 😞

Would a race radio have helped here? If you get knocked unconscious on impact and thus cannot give any info to your team.

Incredibly tragic and feels like it could be avoided. But apart from having enough cars for each rider, it seems difficult to detect crashes by riders who are all alone.

But it shouldn't be, her team support should have known where she was on the road and spotted she was missing imo.

That to me is more fundamental than tech solving this, it's purely human level of where are our riders on the road. Are they all OK? Is there support we should be giving?

No. But a risk assessment & having marshals on hand would've. If Adam had a basic sense of decency, he'd resign.

Hopefully the family will sue the *** out of a lot of people. Sadly all that will happen is Adam will get several mountain stages at the Giro cancelled due to rain citing 'lessons learned' & go on holiday for the rest of the year.

Gross, I hate even contemplating that (your last sentence).
