Women's World Cup

Ja natürlich! I've got my shirt and I'll be watching again on Thursday. Mind you, we had a big screen up in our Marktplatz and mass open air viewings for the world cup. Nothing like that this year, can't think why.

I think Team Canada is screwed if Sinclair can't take the pitch. The games I've seen so far have been decent. The women seem a hell of a lot tougher than male footballers.

North Korea blame loss to U.S. on players getting struck by lightning
After the match, North Korea manager Kwang Min Kim shocked the congregated press by revealing that his side isn't just the youngest team, but it is also the only team in the tournament that's been struck by lightning.

From the BBC:

"When we stayed in Pyongyang during training our players were hit by lightning, and more than five of them were hospitalised," said coach Kim.

"Some stayed in hospital and then came to Germany later than the rest of us. The goalkeeper and the four defenders were most affected, and some midfielders as well. The physicians said the players were not capable of participating in the tournament.

"But World Cup football is the most important and significant event for a footballer, so they don't want to think about anything but football.

"The fact that they played could be called abnormal, the result of very strong will."

I just heard that within the team, norwegian striker emilie haavi, match winner today, is referred to as "der bomber". If nothing else, it's good to know that norwegian girls born in the nineties know about gerd müller..

Actually, yes, I usually support the underdog (although I draw the line when the underdog is Bradley Wiggins). But I don't like it when favourites get a very easy path through.

I'm not sure that will apply tonight though...have a feeling I won't be supporting Nigeria.

Have you watched the games?

They are actually fun. This is the first time that I am actually watching some of the games. That USA versus Brazil was an excellent match.

You should try too. It is in Germany BTW.
