Have you watched the games?

They are actually fun. This is the first time that I am actually watching some of the games. That USA versus Brazil was an excellent match.

You should try too. It is in Germany BTW.

No, no i havn´t watched any soccer since 2010 (reasons: see "i don´t like Soccer" thread).

I know, german TV is full of it (Woman-WC).

Not to offend somebody (gender mainstream wise; omg, funny times we are living: you have to apologize for such things nowadays ), but i think woman sports should be fitting to woman, like basketball, dancing, synchronised swimming etc. Same goes the other way around too.
Basketball looks somehow gay when men shoot. It´s just not looking natural. Anyway, that´s my point of view.

Well, I'll agree when Dirk shoots it DOES look unnatural even tho he is a good percentage shooter.

BTW, you do know that Dirk Nowitski just won the ESPY "Best male athlete of the year award" don't you?

Mods, if you want to delete this whole stupid exchange, you'll get no objections from me. But since the derailment seems to be taking place...
(It would be nice if "Foxxy" could see it first though)

Anyway...

The USA vs France was a great game. There's a lot of excitement building around here in anticipation of Sunday's final. The memories from 1999 are still very fresh in a lot of minds. That was a huge boost for women's sports in the U.S.

At the time, I worked in the same town that the head coach, Tony DiCicco, lived in, and I knew his wife and son. Obviously that amplified the emotions even more for the area. But it really was a national phenomenon. No doubt about it.

Of course, much of the hype in the aftermath of that game, and the lingering iconic image from the shootout, was of Brandi Chastain celebrating her goal to seal the win. But what always bothered me was that the drama of that, in many ways, overshadowed the real event that made that victory even possible: the previous save by U.S. goalkeeper Briana Scurry.

Too often, such is the writing of sports history.

Nevertheless, I can't wait for Sunday's final!

Glad to hear it means something somewhere.

Football is a beautiful game (notice the indefinite article rather than the definite one) but I hate it for the money and the press it recieves in Western Europe. Some countries like this one practically revolve around it.

Womens football on the other hand is free of such plagues and lies on the other end of the scale. Its shocking how little it means to the same people and tabloids who devote their whole lives to the mens game.

For this reason i support it fully. The athletes deserve far more than they get,

I hope the final gets good coverage. In fact I think the media should be obliged to cover it. the BBC in this country for example, makes a lot from its status as a free broadcaster as it allows it access to "the most important events in world sport". Their main rivals SKy cant bid for the mens world cup or for Wimbledon.

If they want this deal they should be made to screen the Womens final as well.

Ill be happy whichever team wins but probably would prefer Japan ( i dont want soccer to become too popular in the US).

Absolutely agree. The Women's World Cup is getting more coverage here (Germany) than women's football usually does, but it's nowhere near what the players deserve.

I'm split. I would hate to see the women's game go the way of the men's game where it's all about the money at the top level these days. On the other hand, the women should get a lot more attention than they do.

A couple of Alex Morgan or Abby Wambach goals would do well to lift my spirits up from Andy's showing today!

USA! USA! USA!

Wow, 1 minute Japan are down and out, the next they have a one on one to win it.

Better than that WC final last year.

Also far less depressing.

I've seen more decent, attacking football in this game than I saw in most of West Ham's last season.:(

Cracking goal by Morgan, the US should have put this out of reach long ago, now it's anyone's game.

Red card.

Free kick in last minute to win it.

This final has had it all.

This is the moment to win it.
