I can't wait for someone to blame the 'outrageous amount of corners' for their loss after the race.

I want to see WVA, Remco and Philipsen all end up in the front group together and refuse to

I want to see WVA, Remco and Philipsen all end up in the front group together and refuse to cooperate.
Well, we know that won't happen, because Remco is going to attack further out than he will say he's going to, in the team meeting, so my question is, which one is going to try to pull everyone back to him...or, will Philipsen play Judas to Wout at some point? Belgium will have a team at the start, but not at any point after that.

So much depends on race/team tactics.

National strength appears to be Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands.

In many ways, I do see Remco as the favorite. But that could end fairly quickly under two conditions: rain or one or more of the other major teams riding more for Remco to lose than themselves to win. I.e. “we are not going to let that punk ridicule us like last year. Better to risk WvA or Phillipsen winning.

does anyone know where I can find the timetable for the mens road race?
It’s not the detailed kind of timetable we’re used to seeing, but it gives a rough idea. I think the championship web site is pretty crummy—it’s a noisy flashy promo for the “spectacle” events. I had to poke around for a long time until I found this:

This is how the big teams can screw up:

  • Belgium: Evenepoel goes too early and is caught back, suffering from the bad weather. Van Aert and Philipsen both sprint for themselves, taking silver and bronze.
  • Denmark: Asgreen refuses to chase after Evenepoel.
  • France: Alaphilippe refuses to chase after Evenepoel. Laporte refuses to chase after Van Aert. Madouas refuses to chase after Küng.
  • Netherlands: Van Baarle attacks before Van der Poel, just to lose a two man sprint. Van der Poel thinks he's still in the Tour and pulls the sprint for Philipsen.
  • Slovenia: Pogacar has the whole team behind him. About five minutes behind him.

Thanks for the link. Have copied the essentials for all:

At one end there is a loop that if it is not wide would seem to make it so those that don't beat those on the return loop would be taken out of the race, BUT as I am guessing it is wide enough to have a median (road works separating two sides or cones, where those going the other way can't run into the lead group?
Yeah, it's wide enough. 4 lane road so will be split down the middle.

Maybe all very true.
But just wait a week until the Dutch women go into action.
Anything and everything could happen.

2 days out and the weather forecast becomes more and more reliable. As an amateur meterologists I am looking at most likely rainpatches, some models say more rain than others. But I believe at least some rain will set in from around 15:00 and continue at least till the race is over.

Temprature is between 12-18 degrees celcius. That's pretty good race weather taking into consideration that we will have very little wind. But with the possibilty of rain it can become a factor. It's a long race.

We will see some suffering and with the forecasted condiotions it will be a good race.

Met Office always seems to be the most accurate forecast here, but that sounds about right.
