World Championships 2024 - Men’s TT, September 22

Another phenomenal performance from Remco Evenepoel, retaining his TT title in splendid style, now an Olympic and World Champion concurrently. His record at major championships is incredible, and he is still only twenty-four years old.

He is now the first cyclist in history, male or female, to win both the Olympic and World Championships TT in the same year.
Could have sworn Grace Brown did the same this year in the women's peleton.

Standing between two Italians on the podium, felt like being "the mozzarella in a focaccia", Evenepoel said. o_O

To avoid any more culinary mishaps, he then went to get some pizza instead.

What's wrong with putting some mozarella in your focaccia? Isn't the whole idea of a focaccia that you can fill it with whatever you want?

I have never seen anyone putting things in a focaccia. I was thinking he must have mistaken it with a panini.

"In", as in "in holes on top".

You've missed out on one of the best things in life: focaccia with mortadella (they call it pizza e mortazza in Rome).

Generally speaking, a good focaccia genovese will do the trick by itself, but nothing stops you from stuffing it with a couple ingredients. I'd go burrata over mozzarella though.

thanks! Will give it a try, if I have a chance. I've seen places putting lots of things on top of it (around Bergamo, for example), but not in the middle.

It's possible that Del Toro will be the only favorite in u23 TT that will be riding without rain. He's starting early.

EDIT: looks like it's still raining pretty hard so roads will definitely not be dry for Del Toro, it might stop raning for like 45 minutes mid TT when for example Morgado and Christen are riding, but roads won't dry up. It will be very tricky for everyone.

I hereby nominate you to make the U23 race thread!

So, I had a bit of a weird "dream"/hallucination last night when I was trying to sleep.

I "dreamt" - or whatever the term would be - that I was watching the race, and they showed Asgreen, except... he had no legs.
I'm pretty sure Asgreen still has legs.

Yes, and what is wrong with that when it is arguably only one other who can match him and be ahead? You are wrong to call it a level below, when he definitely is in the conversation.

I did also mention Cancellara in my post, who probably is number 1 with Martin making a strong case to be second. And my post was in response to calling Remco the TT Goat when there are still a few ahead of him but Remco aint too far off. Talk about taking things out of context.

For the record:

Cancellara has 2 Olympics, 4 WCs and 58 ITT victories.

Martin has 4 WCs and 50 ITT victories.

You are just dying on a hill atm.
Only one other? =D What about Anquetil, Merckx, Hinault? All better, and more versatile, i.e. able to win very hilly and MTTs. If we talk about pure TT specialists, Boardman was better as well. Wiggins, if he hadn't focused on the track for much of his career, would IMO be rated higher as well. Heck, I'd even rate 99-05 Armstrong higher than Martin, also because he was more versatile (and no national TTs to pad his stats). Cancellara, you've already acknowledged. Out of the current crop of riders, Ganna is at least as good, and Evenepoel is the best we've seen since Hinault. Especially if we talk about average placements, there is just no comparison between Evenepoel and Martin.
