Looks fabulous a true climbers paradise. Surely the distance and amount of legsnapping climbing will make it highly tiring and result in 10 or less riders tackling the last climb in the lead group. It ought to be the best worlds I have ever seen. If it is raced as all out war by teams like Colombia and France then I could easily see less than 40 riders even finishing the race.

Italian will also be quite strong with Nibali, Aru, Formolo, Moscon, Rosa, Cataldo, Caruso, Ciccone and Pellizotti as possible 9 riders.

I can't wrap my head around how utterly stupid using that last climb is.
I love it. Finally something different. Of course, I'd also be ok with a mtf worlds for once.
*** no. I want the Worlds to remain a unique race.

Watch Froome winning TdF, WC ITT and WC RR in the same year.
that TT course just screams Dumoulin again. I don't know why people rate Froome so highly on a hilly TT against Dumoulin. He has a better chance on a flat course really. Dumoulin loves a TT with a hill or a lot of up and down.

Nibali, with an attack before the last climb.
This is actually an important point. Nibali will probably be the leader of Italy considering his record in mountainous one day races like this, but the last climb doesn't suit him at all. If Nibali wants to win the race has to explode earlier. Ofc the fact that this climb doesn't suit him could also be an argument why he shouldn't be the team leader but then again, I don't really see anyone from Italy who has a big chance to win if everyone comes to the Murito together.

There aren't that many long (+250K) MTF one day races, are there?

But it's not a unique race. At least not in the sense I believe you mean. I'd just like to see a true climber get a shot at a title the same way fairly one-dimensional sprinters get a shot every now and then. If Cav, Greipel, McEwen, Cipo, and the like get an occasional shot at one, I'd like to see the climbers get their shot.

For me, it would be ideal if maybe in a 6-8 year stretch you had one Worlds each for true sprinters and climbers and the rest were in between somewhere.

I'd probably also be ok with just doing away with the sprinters parcours but I don't like the way it is currently where the sprinters get a shot at it every few years but the climbers never really do. Besides, it would be awesome to see all the top climbers in the world going head to head for once rather than them being spread out amongst various stage races.

I'll just tune in to watch Sagan win.

Don't care about much more these days.
Sagan didn't even give a try in Rio because looks too hard to him after the reconnaissance and that's way harder.
Anyway he'll be the favourite again in Yorkshire 2019 and Vicenza 2020 so no problem for him, he could add more raimbow jersey to the collection in the following years.

I'd like a remake of the Romandie '16 ITT TBH  .

I like the change. The RR may not be perfect, as some are alluding to, but what a nice change. And a real World Champion. Sorry for the Thor and Cav fans. Here, pure sprinters stay home. The murito should make a huge selection, still I see a small group finish. A top-form Valverde would be very hard to beat.

As a Frenchman, there are some nice opportunities between Bala 2.0, Pinot who can sprint better than most, Bardet who can attack anytime...

The Colombians can win solo, but a don't see a solo finish.

Too much for Kwiat, Sagan, Gilbert, or GVA.

And there's Nibali.

I didn't read the title. Thought this was the Bergen thread.

Yes, good post. Throw in guys like Gallopin and Barguil and France should have a really good squad for this parcours.

Valverde's last shot and it looks really good for him. It will be interesting to see what kind of form he has next year. He really should base his season around Worlds next year but he likely won't.

There is one Colombian who wouldn't need to win solo. I know I shouldn't have gone there but he actually gave me hope this year. :p In any case, the Colombians should be a blast to watch.

Are you comparing Thor to Cav, Tonton? Thor was just so much more than a sprinter, he was a very deserving and honourable world champion. A great rider despite his nationality. ;)

Weather will be very, very important.
Could be nice and sunny there and then, but also miserable and cold. If the latter, not many will make it to the finish.

3km at 11% after 250km? Really? I don't think that UCI approves it.
Already approved > the courses have been officially presented yesterday!

Fantastic courses that will make for fantastic racing :D
(and yeah, I am excited, as pretty much all races will pass by my doorstep)

The stupid murito in the last lap ruins it. I also think the circuit might be too long.

250km over a gruelling course with an 8km climb every lap and a murito in the finale. I'd say Nibali because of the endurance test, but ofcourse the Murito in the end is not his thing...

Froome's best chance and probably only ever chance for the Triple Crown.
I wanna see Froome going well in a one day race first. Altho this one obviously doesn't suit him, him being in Bergen and deciding to forego it speaks volumes about what he thinks of himself as a one-day racer.
