One constant criticism these past few years has been playing our cards too late (2016 Olympics spring to mind). I hope we will be attacking.

It's not official yet but apparently the Slovenian team for the RR is going to be:
Primož Roglič
Simon Špilak
Matej Mohorič
Jan Polanc
Jan Tratnik
Grega Bole
Luka Pibernik
Domen Novak

It's not at the level of the top teams but a strong squad nevertheless. It's the strongest Slovenian team ever and for the first time in history they start the WC Road Race with 8 riders thanks to phenomenal seasons from Roglič and Mohorič.

YAY GO SLOVENIA!!! <3
I'm really curious to see what they're gonna deliver. That's an AWESOME team I'd say!

France has three strong options though I suspect the parcours may to challenging for Alaphalippe - Pinot and Bardet both have pedigree in one day races, though I think Bardet is better over the longer distance of the world's.

Gallopin has told Guimard that he is all in to help Julian win the world title.

Perhaps they don't think Vuillermoz has had enough race days since coming back from his Tour misfortune, otherwise he should be a lock for a race on a course like this.

This is beyond me as well, he is basically better on all terrain then some of the guys selected.

Why no Ulissi?
Never done anything relevant in Monuments.
Never worked for anyone not named Diego Ulissi.
And this was his worst season in a long time.

I guess that one is the key since it seems like he's on decent form. :p

I believe he has been allowed to focus solely on the tt

Yes, they've said tonight that it's his own choice to skip the RR, also because his season is far from over yet (he will ride Guangxi as his final race) and he was afraid the RR would compromise later goals with it being so tough.

Not the biggest team player move but whatever.

Spanish team announced it's 8 riders today:

Valverde (sole leader)
E Mas
I Izagirre
Jesus Herrada
Nieve
de la Cruz
Castroviejo
the last spot is either Landa or Fraile, dependent on Landa's health

For the TT
Castroviejo gets the first spot
the 2nd spot is still between Erviti, Soler, and Acras

I'm really liking the French team...I think they're the best bet to upset Valverde.

I don't get why they want to bring Landa to this race. Fraile just proved that he can be a strong work horse for his captain. Landa will lack all the deepness, that will be needed. I could only understand this, if he was a capitain de la route kind of rider.

They are not the ones to upset anybody. Julian Alaphilippe is the number one favorite for rainbow glory, in my opinion.
