So why is Remco better than either of those two/three? Do you rate his current competition? are his palmares much better? I don't follow juniors so I have no idea if this kind of thing happens a lot and it's basically the guys who end up winning in the pros.

Take this race in a vacuuum, how often do we see stuff like this?

Take one data point in a competition that I never watch and know nothing about and extrapolate it?

Nah, I'll stick to asking those who might know better.

With this world title, Remco also, definitively, takes the crown of best junior ever.

What's the metric? And what's the competition?
The metric is a combination of palmares and opinions. The competition was the likes of Kwiatkowski and Sagan, who didn't just win pretty much everything, but also were competing against each other (and Le Bon, who was really good as a junior), while combing it with another discipline of cycling.

Well, for starters, no junior has ever completed the TT/RR double. He just did it in both the worlds and the European championships. However, the most important thing is that he basically wins every race he enters. He just wakes up in the morning and decides for himself whether he'll finish with 3, 5 or 10 minutes advantage.

Fair enough, thanks for the info.

Already find him arrogant
God forbid an 18 year old celebrates a world title after fighting back from a lost position.

He won the Euros RR, with 9m46s on the second guy, and lapped more than half the peloton, so they had to take +/-70 riders out of race.

Wow, that Mayrhofer is a beast - paced himself perfectly.
The crash made it interesting, but Evenepoel clearly a level above all the rest. Celebration was a tad cocky (but how were you when you were 18 and ready to take on the world?), interview was mature though.

As far as greatest junior ever, how does he compare to Merckx or Lemond?

Also, I'd say Lance was equally as good at triathlons, if not better as Remco is at cycling. When Lance was 15, he was already going to head to head with the pro world champions.

Well that was impressive. Quickstep will be very happy.

Italy had three riders in the top ten. Might be pondering over their tactics but would it have changed the result ?
Without the crash, everything might have been different. Quite a few teams were severely handicaped.
But sure, given these circumstances, Italy could have done better. maybe they could have got silver.

I'm already curious how we will look back at this race in 10 to 15 years because it will probably either be the signature win of the most overhyped junior ever, or the start of a legendary career.

All you can really say about a kid that young who is already so strong that he could hardly help being a decent pro even if he has relatively little room to improve. Beyond that, you just can’t tell.
