Of course not..but those on the right are celebrated by the right, the uglier the better..I know you are tired of the alcohol thing but a sloshed angry drunk has the greatest appeal to GOP voters. So what about William Jefferson you'll say..Where is Jefferson's Jack Abramoff? Dana Rohrabacher?? Duke Cunningham.
Daryl Issa????ever read his criminal background?
Oh and the number one economic terrorist in the world Phil Gramm

I'll call that progress.

So why are the "shoplifters" being protected? Abramoff? What happened? Duke Cunningham? What happened? Rohrabacher is a D-bag and likely should be in prison. Considering your willingness to look the other way with Jefferson, Darrell Issa stealing a car should'nt be enough criminality for you to get off your lazy-boy... Unless you are an angry political hack with a huge double standard and an axe to grind.

Celebrated drunks? The uglier the better? Ever heard of Teddy Kennedy? Chappaquiddick? Really??

Ted Kennedy..Just imagine no alcohol in his life..W likely has a Chappaquiddick that you never heard about.
Issa.. He'd be disqualified for 50k a year jobs..He wants to launch investigations about everything Obama..right.
Jefferson is out of congress and appealing conviction. i think
Tom DeLay was yucking it up everywhere today..prime time..Bragging that he will never spend a day in jail..
Waters and Rangel..Small time but widely known corruption..buttering their own bread but still small time. Will never do anything meaningful in congress.
Rohrbacher.. should be in prison..talk about a pass...This is a guy who claimed to personally kill a russian soldier in Afghanistan while a guest of those wonderful Majuhadin/Taliban/OBL budds..Lets not forget his supposed call to Condi Rice 9-10-01 either
Cunningham.. There's a drunk..Talks like a drunk. I think he and his RIO are liars too.
Cheney...OMG
Lynne Cheney..brags that her granddaddy killed indians because they were unworthy to live on the land..(except she was lifting a passage by Ayn Rand)
Babs Bush....Horrible horrible person.. Loved by all republicans
Jeb and Neil... what? 100 million pilfered between them?. S&L (talk about some passes)
Richard Armey..another drunk..obnoxious AH
Haley Barbour """""""""""""""""""""""""""""
Gingrich???????????????

I don't think any of those few hundred @9 year old school kids that came out in tribute of their dead classmate care if the wack job who shot her was from the left or right

Certainly but the act has ramifications that transcend the thought processes of 9 year olds, which means that this is neither here nor there.

The truth is that the right in America has, of late, become far too reactionary, far too obscurantist and far too trigger-happy to be considered, let's be honest, worthy of a civilized democracy, or to merely excuse this on the grounds of individual psychosis. Thus, in this case, the actions of an individual take on more than just that of a unique personal character, because symbolic of a broader zietgeist (spirit of the times) to which the right-wing talking heads now have a moral duty to address. But of course they aren't. To the contrary...which is simply grotesque.

I read Obama's sweet and nice, and therefore throughly nauseating, reconciliatory speech (with irrelevant and irritating biblical quotes to boot) yesterday in the paper, which received bipartisan praise, simply because it's what the likes of Pat Buchanan and Glenn Beck thought was (as if they were the only ones with the legitimate right to place verdict) an appropriate message before their constituents.

Whereas it was the usual type of base reassessment of position, so often formulated by the left (something which the right has always had natural antibodies against), that was merely a dismal show of cowardliness before the opposition.

If it were up to me of course, I'd have made it quite clear, and in no uncertain terms, that their is a segment of American society and political class that is simply ignorant and hateful and is disseminating their ignorance and hate throughout the nation. Only within such a socio-political matrix are the actions of one fascist lunatic, in these times, to be properly understood and critiqued. To he!! with shaking hands. This segment of America rightfully deserves to be backed against the wall and be held responsible for what it socially and politically represents. No more, no less. The day a democratic leader does just that, is the day he will earn my sincere respect. But not this.

Everything else is just wishy-washy and spineless, or else vile and ridiculous, casuistry.

Of course the first day in office "they" took the president aside and showed him the Zapruder film and how "they" would take a "dim view"(wink) of any such "" backed against the wall and be held responsible""ness pushed forth.

This has come up before. I just don't get it. The conservative rationalizing of an individual "right" (for those that can afford it) to seek something private (and consequently privileged), over that of a collective need (meaning including those that can't afford otherwise) to have access to public medical care.

Stingy folks who view it as immoral having their taxes spent on something humanitarian and necessary to any civil society.

Just in principle this is uncivil even before unethical.

PS. But then again I've been living in Europe for too long to comprehend such things.

Well in that case, fascism is no longer impending. It has already arrived.

Yes, well I already commented upon how the fascist elements of the US body politic have a natural disdain for democracy.

Yes... When they are in power they like to say "this country is a republic not a democracy" Which means to them that by whatever means someone(their someone) takes political office that their decisions are final and not subject to redress by the mob..Not only that, those decisions can be completely and total and obviously against the best interests of the citizens and it is just tough s&&^. Any opposition is traitorous and slandered as such.

Apart from this, they remain so compact and united before their causes. This would normally be admirable, except they usually succeed only in making a grotesque parody of such solidarity.

For this I realize my own propensity to try and be objective and self-critical is partaking of a typical dilemma, which the left has always faced (and which has always caused the lethal sectarian divisions that often cripple it), and with which the right has nothing in common. There's by contrast is ever one of showing force and solidarity, even against all rightful claims to do so.

But it has always worked for them. This is why Obama's speech was such a let down.

The left would do well to learn a bit of ruthlessness, when at certain times that's what is demanded and when the opposition deserves nothing less.

The righty thinks he deserves a gold star on the forehead for conforming and being obedient and loyal. They are really neo-communists..But in a Soviet Party member sort of way..They want the state to serve an elite few and HOPE like he!! they are the few..Their anger comes from knowing they are not. They also recognize that the democrats are impotent to oppose the right..but they vote for these idiots that have the worst intentions anyway then throw up their hands that someone doesn't come along and stop them..
For many it is a job requirement..They have to engage in republican CSing to remain employed...They come home and foxnews or rush coaches them on what to agree with the next day..

And thus the contradictions of democratic party politics begins. And why, in the final analysis, the politcians are the spectrum of us. Puerile and incompetent. Though we had hoped for much more....to our great disillusionment. And to their advatage.

Begins? not.. Back during the Reagan years the democrats found out they could not compete with corporate money thrown at Republicans. Thus the DLC was formed.. The corporate Democrats.. Their survival depends upon money that will never come from the citizenry. It is normal for a Republican in the poorest of areas to receive millions from outside sources and it just overwhelms the resources of an opponent with mere support of the residents.
Here in Texas recently a Republican state representative candidate ran hundreds of prime time commercials for a job that pays something like 12 grand a year. 10 million dollars worth of airtime that someone payed for..

I didn't even think about politics once.

Just thought I'd pop a little sunshine in your otherwise angry day.;)

Cheers.

convicted felon and drunk Tom DeLay(R)

""""Tom DeLay says he knows the best way to deal with a potential killer at a congressional town hall meeting: fill the crowd with Texans carrying concealed weapons. DeLay was on Chris Matthews' show Hardball today on MSNBC. The former House majority leader defended himself against his conviction on money-laundering charges. He was sentenced Monday to three years in prison and the case is on appeal.

In the wake of the shooting in Arizona that left several people dead and a congresswoman in critical condition in the hospital, Matthews asked DeLay about gun control. DeLay said he has no problem with Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert's suggestion that members of Congress should be allowed to carry guns onto the floor of the House and Senate. And he said he'd liked to have seen a few more guns in the crowd in Arizona when a deranged man started shooting a semiautomatic pistol.

"If I had a town meeting and was still in Congress, I'd invite all the Texans who have a concealed weapons license to my town meeting and I'd advertise it. Because the person who wanted to come shoot me would have to think once again about committing suicide walking into my town hall meeting."""

These guys all seem like they wish they had been born 100 years earlier, and I wish they could have been.

Which is why the corporate privitization of everything, literally everything, has made democracy today a complete and utter sham.

PS. I was refering to party politics within democracy, in case that wasn't clear.

And I'm about to head off today to a mediaval castle in the picturesque, highlands of central Umbria, for a five hour lunch with 250 circa guests. :p

It will be sunny and about 18 degrees celcius (65 farenheit), with splendid views across the undulating terrain to the borgos and hamlets of the verdent zone.

I won't be engaging in politics. Just much vino.
