The last hundred or so pages the debate has been raging about how crappy our public education system is. The underlying theme seems to be a lack of funding particularly when it come to teachers compensation. The thought seems to be that teacher comp packages need to be significantly higher to attract the best and brightest.

Meanwhile, doctors in Germany earn 1/2 of what American doctors earn. Are the German people getting the very best pursuing a career in medicine??

I'm guessing (probably) not.

Naive? Maybe. I think the left in this country has all but convinced the American people that the government is best to handle a multitude of (what used to be) personal decisions.

We just can't do it without the bureaucrats help. We just can't.

Naive or not, that is where we are headed and not just with healthcare.

or something else..brainwashed megadittos

..... Why ? ....

When presented with career choices will German kids choose medicine out of altruism? Or will the really bright choose something more lucrative?

Personally, I want doctors to be extremely well paid precisely to attract the very best.

You just don't have a clue about conflict of interest..The free market is a guaranteed failure in many aspects of our lives. Healthcare is just one.

What order of magnitude greater should we pay our doctors than we pay the people who are responsible for molding the minds of our children?

Edit: Yeah I'm glad we got Bin Laden too. 9 1/2 years and 1 president later......in your face m-therf--k-r. You can run but you can not hide, well you can but not quite for ever. OK are we done? Can we bring everybody home now?

It is good Osama is dead but terrorists will always be apart of global society. Some people on various sources are acting like that their will be no more terrorism. It's interesting that we really haven't been given much details on this issue. People now are going to be scared to travel because of these warnings about plane travel.

True, and even drunky mcsmirky understood that one guy taken down does not eradicate terrorism. If I recall, Bush Jr. even said we were in this fight against terrorism for the long haul, and that it was not going to be a quick in and out kind of thing. Anyone who thinks terrorism is done needs a good couple of grande coffees.

Osama Dead?

Has it been confirmed by the UCI? I won't be swayed until I see the B sample... until then this is all a beat up by Fabiani :D

Woohoo! What a great day, week for our country. I wasn't sure if this day would ever come, but wow. Big props to Obama for focusing on this, and putting together teams that made all the right decisions and got this done. I don't normally wish death for anyone, but I hope for Bin Laden is was painful. I appreciated the way the President pointed out that he wasn't a Muslim leader, he was a mass murderer.

No terrorism isn't over. It never will be. You will never be able to eliminate hate. But this is a very good day. And if there ever was a time showing we need to move on, and aggressively start bringing our troops home, get out of the Middle East as much as possible (and cut the defense budget), it's now.

Great pick there Red.

Just like education, right? Or does education have to pay for itself?

Not true. Well, not often true. While there are definitely some doctors like this, a great deal of them worked very hard and long to get where they are, doing things most people could never do. Doctors aren't insurance adjusters, CEO's who run companies into the ground and still get golden parachutes, trust fund babies or hedge fund clients sitting on wads of cash "investing". They work.

It should also be known that a lot of doctors don't make very much money at all when first working. It's surprisingly low. Granted, many can make 6 figures after a few years, or more, but this isn't some easy path they take.

If doctors end up multi-millionaires, I'm okay with it.

Want to take on someone in the medical field, take on the insurance companies.

Great pick there Red.

The media won't acknowledge it, but they found Bin Laden by tracking one of his trusted couriers. They identified the courier through information gained by a prisoner in Guantanamo in 2007. So... take that for what its worth.

I thought it was fitting and classy on Obama's part that he notified Bush and Clinton by personally of the development.

According to the NYT the news was sort of leaked on Twitter through Lance Armstrong, just kidding It was leaked by an elated Keith Urbahn who was Rumsfeld's former chief of staff.

I really assign credit to the men and women directly involved in tracking him down and going after him.
