big news, just in (swedish)

'sweden will recognize palestine as a sovereign state', said new pm.

if so, i believe sweden will be the 1st and only european state with balls.
in 5 decades there will not be a palestine west bank. there will be another ~1 million settlers. = 500k imports, +500k natural growth.

anyone who has read about this neo-colonialism chapter, knows the peace process is just Dov Weisglass' formaldehyde. google it.

the israelis rely on the ignorance of 99.9999% of humanity over this. Most people think it is the Palestinians and Entebbe and PLO who are the terrorists, but a cursory reading of Ilan Pappe or IfAmericansKnew would be able to appreciate this is just the opposite to the truth. Most jewish friends i know, only know the myth and arabs=terrorists.

Sorry if I'm wrong on this recognition issue.

But from my quick reading.

Norway upgraded the Palestinian mission in Oslo to an embassy in December 2010, and Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre called for the creation of a Palestinian state within the following year.[302] In January 2011, Støre stated that, should negotiations with Israel fail to make progress by September, his country would recognise Palestine within the United Nations framework.[303][304] Following a meeting with Abbas in July 2011, Støre claimed that it was "perfectly legitimate" for the Palestinians to seek a vote on recognition of statehood.[305] "The fundamental Norwegian view is that a people have the right to use UN institutions to clarify questions about the legitimacy of their status in the world. We are opposed to denying this to the Palestinians". The minister withheld full commitment until the request was officially announced,[306][307] after which, on 18 September, he confirmed that Norway would lend its support: "Norway will support this and is prepared to recognise a Palestinian state."[308]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_recognition_of_the_State_of_Palestine

Norway was one of the drivers in the recognition push due to our role in facilitating it's state building. If they haven't technically recognized them, there might be some procedural thing they want.

Why any people on the planet today should be without a state is beside me. Then, when it is the US led governments of the democratic, so called developed world in the UN that are largely responsible for the continual status of such territorial limbo and legitimacy, the hypocrisy knows no shame.

but you know the background to Balfour, then the League of NAtions decision?

The League of NAtions decision was a gerrymandered vote (we are talking the original partition, 1947 or so, before the Ben Gurion's haganah started ethnically cleansing)

it was a gerrymandered vote, the S American nations were heavily "leant" on, by the Americans, and the African nations were not for it. It was only the Americans and the Europeans who had a massive guilt to pay back the jewish nation on behalf of the european ashkenazism jews (and sepphardim) for the shoah. But before the holocaust, there was herzel and chaim weisman politically agitating for a state in the palestine mandate, that circa ~5% were jewish citizens then.

but the devils advocate, and it is valid, and a position i find credibile, this has been the grand arc of history. people dispossessed, holocausts, ethnic cleansing, it is a macro and meta psychological study of how we as humans consider the other. It was never jews qua jews, but jewish people qua "other". We are tribal, and their must be an other for this dichotomy to hold.

Just like America needed knew enemies after Gorbachov glasnost and peristroika. They needed to find new enemies. Just like Israel exists in relation to their enemies.

And even though i have a pretty good hold on the hirtory, i do support Israel and the people, like i am sure all posting here do, but i sought of require a cognitive dissonance to support them. I dont support the gov't. But it is a pretty unique nation, that can produce so many nobel laureates and science breakthru(s) and artist creations. It is up there with American in this unique type of innovation which advances humankind. I am not talking about economic advancement or GDP. (just science/tech/art).

And once it was Mesopotamia and the greater arab tribes who lead humanity thru the dark ages with science and mathematics. Which was built upon by the European nations.

I think Niall Ferguson of Kennedy School and Ian Morris of Stanford riff upon this is recent tomes of theirs. The NYtimes bestseller type books, not academic tomes. Tho I am sure they have done both with the same research. I think both are ex-Oxford, or they may have done time at Cambridge, either way, Oxbridge euros.

which is felicitous on this theme i am channeling, about new leadership over the arc of history. when huntington and fukuyama's theses have been discredited as neo-con bibles

bill maher muppet, he went to cornell with someone pretty famous like foster wallace, but not DFW he was williams or amhurst. Sam Harris is also a w@nker. A recemt article on criticism of Israel i felt was valid, premise was anti-semitism. But he is just now engaging in the neo-Elders-of-Zion trope on the brown people

first tenet in Kissinger and Brzezinski's strategy and worldview, apart from American exceptionalism, manifest destiny, and the 51st state

are you restating the old tenet- 'might is right' ?

while generally and historically the tenet holds true, it is quite tricky to apply it to today's middle east...clearly, israel is the military and economic supremo in the region. but unless the jews figure out the fast changing geopolitical reality, they stand to face the most horrible of choices a human can make - to use nuclear weapons in their usual over-reactive, neurotic manner. i do believe they are quite capable to drag us down this path

Samson doctrine.

and (generic) dont conflate jews = Israel. Yeah, this works for the Israelis with their diaspora putatively obliged fealty

which is BS. and inandof itself, anti-semitic.

and Bibi Netanyahu of Likud is not getting pulled and wedged from the RIGHT!. Bibi, far right, now Netani Benet's party has got him by the throat from the right.

my layperson pop pychology 101 on Israel, they need to tell and retell and repeat their myths, cos at some level, they do know they engaged in ethnic cleansing, so their guilt they go on to treat the OTHER the Pals even worse. a denial if you will. My working teory, that i should be old even to have disproved or proved, is when Israel reach a maturity = ~ 100 years old, they will re-enter the international community as a family member in the Mid-East.

Now, I am Australian, and most on this thread have American passports or working visas, Geneva conventions dictate the coalition hold the responsibility for the deaths and the ensuing internicine war in Iraq. ~1 million excess deaths. On that utility, Israel are a mosquito bite, to put it in context.

Sure but it is up to them, at this point, for the world to not conflate Israel with Jews. And it is a political problem, before a religious one. In fact this is the problem. That such isn't possible is the root of the problem.

when is said it was BS. I meant, diaspora jews, obliged fealty to conflate Israel = jewish qua jew political state. and that aint right for foreign jews, it is also political antisemitism telling them what they can or cant advocate in political term.

and term diaspora, which i am using, is even charged.

but that Swedish city, may have been Aarhus, or a southern city, where the mayor came out and compelled local jews to reject one of the Gaza massacres. Well, this mayor made another error, even he should have encouraged all citizens in his city to protest, or none. To single out only one group, is again, buying in to this erred dichotomy. one is aware Finkelstein sees philo-semitism as just another side of the coin as anti-semitism. i am not against freedom of association and self identification tho.

Pythie, sounds remarkably what kennyy lay (dubbya is my mate) and good ol boy jefffffy skilling did with the power to the California market circa 1998ish.

i think i might be conflating one summer during the TdF in the last 6 years, an unreasonably hot summer where alot of elderly french citzenry died because of insufficient, lacking, or no cooling measure.

now, for some reason, circa 1998/1999 when Enron were really tweaking the Cali power market just after the deregulation, that some folks were fatalities due to this, and I am not assuming winter or summer. I think i may have all these anecdotes confected.

But wrt Gas and Ukraine and Vlad and Gazprom and FC Schalke sponsorships, I knew this has some antecedent with Enron and California and the governor preceding Bush that was turfed out cos he was on the wrong side of Enron.

the best guy from the imbroglio that was Enron was not Fastow or Skilling or Lay, it was the Asian guy who married a dancer from Houston's equivalent of Yellow Rose. He married a stripper and took his 100 million in stock and sold over before Ch11 and went to live in Hawaii. Funny stuff. Only in America.

A man knows, if you are gonna marry a stripper, you have to go to Austin and marry a Yellow Rose stripper. Lance swears by them. He has a plaque in his name, in the private room.
Things always happened longer ago than we think, that heat wave was in 2003, 11 years ago.

It provoked the government at the time to create a new tax supposedly to finance care for seniors, but which in reality is used by the political elite to have their €2,000 shoes shined in the comfort of the gold-gilded ministries.

i'm pretty sure this shirtfronting will spell vlad's end...

the evil vlad is absolutely bound to apologize for all his misdeeds following the ozzy shirt-'con'-fronting. he must.

moreover, vlad will prolly resign immediately to let the world know that the ozzy Muppet hero, disguised as their pm - unlike any other politico in the greeen wide western world - had the jewels to '...con...shirt...front the mighty vlad.

while i generally adore ozzies, i really do, they seem to have elected the leader that appears the stupidest politician aiming to exploit the easiest chaff....

...reminds me my earlier post that our contemporary western leaders seem mental and political midgets compared to the likes of Churchill, Roosevelt, De Gaul... the Abbott idiot mouth proves the point profusely.

a had a chuckle (and learned several english words along) reading this (twemlow is an aussie, right ?):

Abbott v Putin: Will the G20 turn into a naked wrestling match?

no, he may well be now Australian citizen/more than a work visa, but his cultured accent would indicate prolly grew up in the UK in his formative years.

as i said, i dont know his background. just FYI, Abbott was born in England (too)

Bojo was born in NYC. And not a Tory, never were a Tory, but I am a fanboi groupie of Bojo, the guy like Kevin Pietersen the cricketer, is a genius

thanks, cat, for the research. at the end of the day it matters not if tremlow is a brit or aussie...i just loved his humour and its sarcastic bend appeared ozzy to me.

thus i thought a compatriot of abbott deserved his opinion propagated given the oddity of the term usage ('shirtfronting') to most of us non native australian english speakers. whatever.

well, it is only to a particular part of Australia, only half of Australia plays aussies rules, like the bifurcated waloon french speakers versus the flemish dutch flemish speakers, even if Frank Vandenbroecke was was Waloon, Flanders is the real Belgium innit...

so, apart from the extemporising

shirtfront is Australian Rules Football idiom, means when a player basically runs through you like a mack truck. It did used to be legal under most circumstances. And since Australian Rules is a 360 degree game, one could often be blindsided. Now, the Australian Rules Football League took an influence from the NFL with their class action suit from the ex-players suing the league, and the AFL(AusfootballLeague) has tightened rules so now it is outlawed under any circumstances where you can contact the head.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZWe4yjq4-k

this Jazz Tremlow cat, he does remind me of the british homourists out of Monty Python and the Cambridge Footlights, all the best british comics usually read English at Oxbridge units. Like a few coming up thru Australian comedy, they usually read English or Law and are out of Sydney sandstone Uni like Abbott. I would say this Tremlow cat, probably did his university in the UK, his cultured accent indicates this, would not be surprised if he was at Oxbridge too.

if you want more "shirtfronts" just youtube "shirtfront" + "football" and you will have an entire playlist to watch. Like NFL, but without the helmets and protective gear.

edit: its the south part. Melbourne, South Australia/Western Australia/Victoria/Tasmania. They play football in the northern states, but like they player soccer in the US. The game in NSW and Queensland is rugby. Rugby League and Rugby Union. Union is the upperclass sport, and league is for the proletariat.

German Intelligence says the rebels did it.

BND's Schindler says his agency has come up with unambiguous findings. One is that Ukrainian photos have been manipulated and that there are details indicating this. He also told the panel that Russian claims the missile had been fired by Ukrainian soldiers and that a Ukrainian fighter jet had been flying close to the passenger jet were false.

"It was pro-Russian separatists," Schindler said of the crash, which involved the deaths of four German citizens. A spokesman for the German Federal Prosecutor's Office told SPIEGEL that an investigation has been opened into unknown perpetrators because of the possibility that the crash had been a war crime.

but the rebels got the BUK from the Ukraine military base, which is plausible, since the rebels are ex-military. And the missile was from Ukraine.

will Kerry and Obama and the loudmouth Australian STFU now? not likely? chastened? America, Abbott, even less likely

Yes it was pro Russian rebels, with a Russian tech sitting next to them showing them how to use it. Old news, they have been doing this sort of thing since the Korean war. More than a 'few' Korean Mig 15s and then Mig 17/21 in VietNam flown by Russian(and Chinese) pilots.

Why would they STFU? But Putin has already backed down, very Kruschev-esque of him...
