Youth CQ Ranking Game 2019

Great victory of Pogacar in Algarve. This young man comes impressive; he wins Poels and Mas as if he were a veteran. This year will give many points and those who have it on our list ... we will celebrate with Tadej  .

Update 3

After a slow start to the season in other parts of the world, it is now in full swing with many different races going on at the same time and we're getting a first look at the potential young stars in the peloton. Interestingly enough, the rider with the biggest score (48 points) in this update is Stefan De Bod thanks to an excellent performance at the South African national championships, perhaps a bit of a hidden event on the calendar. He was only picked by 6 people and his points have caused quite a shift in the rankings. Highest scorer is DJW, he is the only one with the combination of De Bod with Osorio, even though the latter is on roughly half the teams. He also got points from Affini and Muñoz.
Second highest scorer is Armchair Cyclist, with points from De Bod, Affini and Bouchard. Otoxiep87 rounds out the podium with one point less than Armchair Cyclist, combining points from De Bod, Affini and Muñoz.

The same names feature prominently on the highest movers list, however, the highest mover of all with 19 spots up is Trudgin, she was 4th on this update's highest scorers ranking, scoring points with De Bod and Affini. Armchair Cyclist is the 2nd highest mover, while DJW shares the third place spot with Nathanptz, who just has De Bod, but that is all that's needed to do well in this update!

Overall, Ludwigzgz passes his fellow Spaniard Kryvo and moves into the overall lead. DJW leaps all the way to 3rd and Armchair Cyclist and me also jump into the top-10.

What will the team leader (Aru) feel when his servant (Pogacar) wins him in this impressive way? What this young man does is rarely seen. It is said of Evenepoel, but we will have to see how they evolve. Today in the time trial stage has returned to make another great demonstration.

Another stage that wins me the Eritrean whose name is difficult to know what it is (may be HAILU Biniam Girmay). It has been in the Tour of Rwanda. He has the face of a grandfather, but they say he is 19 years old. I picked it up by 0 points and it has already given me 48. This is going well.
Oh, and he has no team!

Well my friend Javi may or may not get any CG points this year, however he started his season today in a U-23 race. This is his first U-23 race and although he didn't finish with the lead group, he did finish the race and said his sensations felt better than he expected. Now he just needs time and experience and hopefully he will do well enough to get a pro contract in the next couple of years.

Update 4

I don't think I'm exaggerating when I claim that in the last two weeks, we saw one of the most impressive displays in the history of our game. Tadej Pogacar, first year pro, class 1998, won the Volta ao Algarve against some pretty tough opponents, and with a level of strength, composure and resilience you don't often see in riders at that age. As Algarve is a 2.HC race, this earned him a huge chunk of points, to the joy of the 7 players who selected him. They will sleep a bit better at night knowing Pogi is already over 2/3rds of the way towards profit, despite his pretty significant price of 361 points.

Obviously, the 7 who picked Pogacar, are also the top 7 highest scorers. Best of all is Kryvo, who also scored significant points with Moschetti and our Eritrean friend, Biniam Girmay. Karaev1 follows closely, adding points from Moschetti and Giovanni Lonardi to Pogi's tally. Third highest scorer this week is Jon Ezeitza, who has proven himself a very loyal supporter of Girmay in the past weeks.

I feel obliged to give a shoutout to skidmark (Fedeli - Lonardi - Moschetti - unique pick Rajovic), for what would have been a very impressive score in any other update. But skidmark can't be too unhappy, as he features at the top of the highest movers list this update. Interestingly enough, none of our Pogi friends rank very high on the highest movers list, which can perhaps be explained by the fact that Pogacar had already scored a few points before this update.
2nd highest mover is scrooll07, scoring mainly with Fedeli and Moschetti. 3rd highest scorer is 18-Valve with Moschetti, Lonardi, Bouchard and unique pick Attila Valter. I also want to mention Otoxiep87 in 4th place on this ranking, whose unique pick Rodrigues went a bit unnoticed in Algarve, but deliverd a very impressive performance nonetheless.

Overall, Kryvo climbs one spot and takes over the lead from Ludwigzgz. Karaev1 makes a big jump to 3rd place. Also notice Otoxiep87's leap into the top-10, while DJW drops 10 places to 13th.

Update 5
In the last two weeks we had some major races, but as usual, big races with lots of points on offer doesn't translate into big points for our young riders. Most of us scored less than 50, and only player scored more than 100 points, skidmark. He got most of his points from rare picks Emils Liepins and Felix Gall. Liepins finished 4th in the Ronde van Drenthe while Felix Gall showed his talent in the Istrian Spring Trophy, winning a stage and the GC.
DJW is the 2nd highest scorer. He got points with his unique pick Aksel Nommela (also one of the most expensive riders in the game) and Stefan de Bod. The third step on the podium goes to search, who is the only other person with Liepins.

We also find search at the top of the highest movers rankings. He moves up 10 places, taking advantage of the low scores to jump towards the middle of the table. CORDI and Hakkie2 climb 7 spots, both thanks to Gall's points from Croatia.

Overall, the most notable changes are the jumps by skidmark and DJW into the top-10. They are now 8th and 10th, respectively.
Personally, I am a bit disappointed to drop out of the top-10 despite finishing 5th on the highest scorers ranking! ;)

Ok, so my team is last and will likely remain there. However, I did get a handful of points. Also my friend did make his U-23 debut and finished the race. So although it's likely he's not going to score any points, he was happy with his first race. He said he felt better after the race than he had expected and that he was able to finish with the 2nd chase group on the road which he did not expect to be able to do when he started the race. He's also been doing more training with his boss (Alejandro Valverde) to try to get better.

Update 6

Wow, we've got some massive scores in this update! Many of us doubled our point totals in the past 2 weeks, as we saw several young guns deliver solid results. But of course, we have to put the spotlight on Mathieu van der Poel, whose score shapes the rankings in this update. Of course, it's a bit unfair to compare him with the others in our game, but still, we have to remember he is a very expensive pick and a huge gamble, considering his limited road racing schedule. I'm sure some players were holding their breath after his crash in Driedaagse De Panne, but he bounced back already in his next race with a win and a handy 140 points. Add to that his 4th place on Sunday, and things are looking very good for the teams that selected him.

MADRAZO is our highest scorer, he combines 236 points from Van der Poel with solid scores from Moschetti and Lonardi, as well as a dozen or two from Alfdan De Decker and rare picks Arvid de Kleijn and Thibault Ferasse.

Nathanptz and Leadbelly share the 2nd spot on the podium of the highest scorers ranking. Interestingly, they didn't score with the same riders, although they do share Moschetti and Dewulf. Nathanptz adds points from De Decker and Lonardi and a big 175 points from unique pick Cees Bol. Leadbelly is one of those with Van der Poel, and added a couple small scores from Barnabas Peak and Cristian Muñoz.

In the highest movers ranking we see a couple big leaps. Leadbelly, 2nd highest scorer of the week jumps 23 spots to 11th place, which he now shares with another of the big movers, AupaPyama. He moves up 22 spots thanks to points from Van der Poel, rare pick Pierre Barbier and a couple others. Third highest mover spot is shared by this update's highest scorer MADRAZO and Koronin. Koronin got points from Van der Poel as well as Barbier and unique pick Magnus Klaris.

These big movements resulted in quite a few changes to the top of our overall ranking. In first is now fauniera, who climbed 5 places. Nathanptz and MADRAZO round out the new podium. Interesting to note, that MADRAZO scored almost 4/5ths of his current score in the last 2 weeks! A bit lower in the top-10 we find search, who's jumped from 16th to 7th.
Of course, when there are winners there are also losers, and we see quite a few tumble down or even out of the top-10. Most notably, our Spanish friends, former 1st place Kryvo, Ludwigzgz, Jon Ezeitza and Josedin all drop several places.

Update 7

I considered last update's scores to be massive, but lo and behold, the scores in this update are even bigger! Of course, this is mainly due to Mathieu van der Poel and Tadej Pogacar delivering splendid results in WT races. Van der Poel scored 356 points thanks to his win in Dwars door Vlaanderen and 4th place in De Ronde. Pogacar got 164 points by battling it out with the best in Itzulia. They are the two most expensive picks in the game, but they are also both in profit now, and we're only in April. Definitely a gamble that paid off for those who selected them, however only one of us decided to go all-in and picked both. It cost 9/10th of his budget, but so far it's paying off for fauniera. He was already the overall leader in the last update, and now he is the highest scorer this update, looking good.
The second highest scorer was shawnm4747, who added to Van der Poel's points just over a 100 points for rare pick Vadim Pronskiy, who finished 3rd in Langkawi. A nice pick, he is now already at 250% of his 2018 score!
3rd highest scorer is CORDI, who has Van der Poel and also scored slightly smaller batches of points with Andreas Leknessund and Kometa boys Michel Ries and Juan Pedro Lopez. That's what I like to see!

CORDI is also the highest mover, together with Joelsim. They climb 11 places and both move into the top-10. Shawnm4747 rounds out this podium by moving up 10 places. He is now in 4th overall.
Of course, fauniera keeps the lead, but behind him we see a lot of movement. Most notably, besides the ones already mentioned, are search (+4), AupaPyama (+5) and leadbelly (+4) all making gains. We see Karaev1 drop a handful of places and several more players drop out of the top-10, most notably former 2nd place Nathanptz who drops 14 places to 16th.

Thanks for the update.

Looking good so far. I'm pretty sure that Pogi will continue to score lots of points through the season, so the question is: What will Mathieu do after Amstel? Will he even race on the road? Quite a lot depends on that, and not only in this game.

Update 8

Florry is off to Italy for vacation, but this doesn't mean our youngsters in the game took a break from scoring massive points as well - in contrary: for the second time in a row the magic 500 points barrier was broken, and this time not only by one, but by three participants. And same as two weeks ago, it is Fauniera who came off best, thereby also cementating his lead in the overall standings.

The majority of those points were scored by Mathieu van der Poel (by winning the Amstel) and Remco Evenepoel (in the Tour of Turkey) again, and also Tadej Pogacar kept on bringing in good profit, which may make the lesser known picks look insignificant this week - but in the end it could be exactly those who make the difference between winning and losing the game.

Some good examples of those are the unique choices of Mathijs Paasschens, who came 6th for scrool07 in Paris-Camembert, Samuele Battistella, LaFlorecita's winner of the Giro Belvedere di Villa di Cordignano, Stefano Oldani, 11th in the Vuelta a Castilla y Leon for Leadbelly and Alexander Richardson, who took the Arno Wallaard Memorial to the joy of Will10.

In the end it were the van der Poel teams who consolidated their rankings in the overall standings this week though, with relatively few big movements. Shawnm4747 will be happy to see his team move up to 3rd though with the 2nd highest score this week, and Koronin and del1962 entered the Top 10 by moving up a week-high four spots.

Currently Comodore in 11th has the best team without him, so he'll look forward to grabbing the chance and climb up the ladder again.

Update 9

I've returned from Italy just in time for another update, thanks search for taking care of the previous one :cool
We were spoiled in the last month or two, but this time it's a rather underwhelming update, with very low scores across the board.
Highest scorer is TheArt with 92 points, with significant contributions from Alberto Dainese and TheArt's unique picks Marten Kooistra and Kaden Groves.
Karaev1 is the 2nd highest scorer, scoring with Dainese and Joris Nieuwenhuis.
The podium is rounded out by LukasCPH, thanks to unique picks Niklas Larsen and Rasmus Bogh Wallin.

Because of the low scores, we don't see much movement. TheArt is also the highest mover (up 5 places), jfazendeiro is the second highest mover (up 3 places) with points from Dainese and unique picks Ziga Jerman and Jake Stewart. LukasCPH is also third here.

Overall, there is no movement in the top-10. Fauniera remains the leader ahead of MADRAZO and shawnm4747.

Update 10

The Giro is nearing its end and as is traditional, we haven't had many young riders score in the race. However, parallel to the Giro several other races took place, among them the Tour of California. Of course, we all remember who won here: the amazingly talented Tadej Pogacar. 'Pogi' was an expensive pick, but 7 people gambled on it and are now reaping the rewards. He has already almost doubled his big 2018 score and the season is far from over.

Naturally the highest scorers this week will be those with Pogacar on their team. Comodoro stands out from the crowd, adding to Pogacar's score significant contributions by Hayter, Leknessund, Pronskiy, Affini, Gregaard and Evenepoel. With a total of 418 points, he moves up 6 positions to 5th overall which makes him the highest mover of this update.

Karaev1 is the second highest scorer. Besides Pogacar, Karaev1 had Moschetti, Vingegaard, Nieuwenhuis, Thijssen, Scotson and Evenepoel score major points. He moves up 4 places to 8th overall.

Ludwigzgz is the third highest scorer, scoring with De Decker, Evenepoel, Nieuwenhuis and Mitchelton trio Stannard, Affini and Scotson.

As I mentioned, comodoro is also the highest mover, but he shares the honors with LosBrolin, who got significant points from Stannard, Bagioli, Hayter, Evenepoel and his Vikings Gregaard, Vingegaard and Leknessund.

Overall, fauniera remains the leader and in fact solidifies his position by outscoring his closest threats by quite some margin. Except the two newcomers in the top-10, comodoro and Karaev1, there is very little movement among the top positions.

I was looking at the overall team popularity the other day because, arguably, Van der Poel and Pogacar have been two of the most important picks and because of their high price they were bound to be not too popular. I noticed Wallenquist's team almost near the bottom, but his team has the highest popularity score. That has to be a rare sight. He has Kanter as well. It seems, besides Pogacar and MVDP, all 100+ points picks have been disappointing so far.

I think Fauniera is not achievable and will be the final winner.
He made a risky tactic that has gone very well, he played everything at MvdP and Pogacar. Congratulations, well played.

The players that we take only MvdP or Pogacar will fight for the second position and I think the final result will depend on some other rider who stands out from here at the end of the season. I think it's far from being decided.

Vamos chavales!!

110 nice points for Thibault Ferasse today, winning Boucles de la Mayenne overall and bringing him to 148 points this year, from 2 points. Almost in the Evenepoel league of picks so far. Thats the kind of results needed to challenge Fauniere so I hope the rest of my team gets inspired. But ofcourse during the same 3 days Pogacar scores 54 points further and will likely just continue like this all year, so it will be very hard to catch him indeed.
