For the "pedaling technique doesn't matter crowd"

"Freewheeling pedals" clearly mean only one thing and that's not PowerCranks. Believe it or not but not everyone with a gold or bronze colored frame or crankset is using PowerCranks. I've never seen anyone riding them but I see hundreds of powermeters, even the unpopular Ergomo and iBike.

Sounds like the golden color is describing the bike. That really doesn't sound like PowerCranks.

Pedals have a freewheel? Sounds like Powerpedals, another failed "invention."

    What patches do you use???

Cut small patches out of old tubes that can't be repaired. They're much easier to apply but you'll have to sand the surface of the tube and the patch and apply vulcanizing fluid to both as well. Buy vulcanizing fluid in bulk at an automotive store.

    Denver, Colorado

Depends where you work or go to school and whether you want to have a longer commute to work/school or to ride. The good riding is in the west, jobs/schools are generally in the center of town. One possibility is living near Chatfield or Cherry Creek parks and then riding further west in...

How long should a chain last?

Yeah, but it might be a good idea to get whatever you used to remove the grease off before lubing. Degreaser and lube don't really mix well.

How long should a chain last?

An ultrasonic cleaner with diluted Simple Green will strip off the grease.

How long should a chain last?

Most chain tools don't work: http://pardo.net/bike/pic/fail-004/000.html I bought a Park and Rohloff years ago and regret buying them. The Rohloff tells me that brand new Shimano chains are almost 0.75% worn. I had trouble measuring chains the proper way using a ruler so I bought the...

Airbag safety devices for pro bike racers?

I believe that road cyclists may have different types of crashes and injuries than equestrian. I was always thinking there might be a way to prevent collarbone breaks and shoulder separations. Perhaps some kind of elbow pad that also prevents you from locking your elbow when you extend your...

Someone on bikeforums was complaining of being taken out by a motorcycle last week.

Anyone had odd encounters whilst riding?

Something about riding bikes brings out the crazies. When I used to work in a bike shop, there was this big scary guy (think Lenny from Of Mice and Men) who used to come in all the time and not buy anything. One time, he put on a Giro helmet backwards and said, "I can get this for $90...

    Squirrel encounter

This morning, I rode past a freshly killed juvenile ground squirrel. Those things were always darting across the road in front of my bike and one finally got nailed by a car. On the way back, I saw another rider off of his bike pick up a large rock from the ground and approach the squirrel. I...
