Lars Van den Berg forced to retire due to heart issues.

Him describing the news as heartbreaking is a rather poignant choice of words.

Groupama will probably have to elevate someone to the pro team now, by the way, because they were at the minimum number before.

He did not describe the news as 'heartbreaking' or any Dutch synonym involving the word heart, that's Cyclingweekly's translation. So either they need to get an editor actually capable of proofreading or there are some pretty sick people working there.

Well, Deignan was already the first rider to have continued to race - at least on top-level - after giving birth twice. Though Barker is about to follow in those footsteps.

She's the first to have been paid throughout her pregnancies. Denise Betsema also has two children, but she had them before she reached the top level in CX. Right now I can only think of riders who has one child, but I believe I have heard about some that have had two.

not that old considering hes been around forever, basically with the same high level since he started out

it sucks and is also weird, because theres so many races and teams, that theres no younger polish cyclists to really be part of races like him and kwiatkowski

Louis Kitzki (21, Alpecin Devo) will not continue his cycling career. He lost the joy in it after the fatal accident of André Drege in the Tour of Austria last year already, and "became increasingly concerned about [...] safety and [felt] increasingly uncomfortable in races".

Now, after being around again when Samuele Privitera died in the Giro Ciclistico della Valle d'Aosta, he decided to stop completely.

Ide Schelling retires at the age of 27, unwilling (or unable) to keep up with the always increasing professionalism in sports.

"Racing and being a pro brought me more then I could ever imagine, but times change. I slowly felt more and more disconnected with the life as a pro cyclist and the racing on the highest level. So I've decided to take a step back and explore a new phase in life."

I wondered a few times in the last 2-3 years what was going on with him. He seemed like a carismatic, exicting rider when he broke through in 2021.
