He basically said he struggles more getting results because he doesn't have the biggest engine, and when you're struggling more and not getting results it's not fun to be up and top professional and give it everything every single day.

Short career but nothing tragic. Young guy still, wants to do something, and leaves after a few years of making good money. Nothing but respect for that.

You can find more informations here, after numerous crashes in the last years and breaking his neck (!) in March, he made the decision that he didn't want to do this any longer

I think by fractured femoral neck they're referring to a fracture in the neck of his femur (very common in the elderly!), not the actual neck neck. I read in a different article that the surgery was successful but he was still painful, and that he wasn't enjoying cycling anymore due to fear of another crash. There just isn't a way you can perform well like that in the pro peloton, so, I'm glad his pops understands and is supportive of him.

Young Alex made it through his career without being embroiled in any doping or political scandals, and has redeemed the family name. As such I feel it only fair that we petition the UCI to demand Vinos top wins in the 2007 Tour are retroactively reinstated, with immediate effect.

I'll never forget that I posted a blog on the Danish TV2 website on the second rest day in 2007 about my frustration over seeing Vino blatantly cheat, and then he was thrown out of the race merely hours later. Good times.

Démare is also calling it a day. A shame he couldn't cross the line first when he had multiple chances in the early part of the season.

This has made me quite sad. Despite the fact that he was a chronic cheat and couldn't sprint in a straight line I always liked demare
