Alaphilippe had a really strong sprint finish, was gaining ground on Valverde and angry he didn't make it. One to watch.

C'mon, he looked cooked the last two climbs, and knew he had serious chances of podiuming he if reserved some energies for a sprint, how can you blame him. The guy is basically alone every race, team mates only appear near him from time to time, and many are the times he has to bridge by himself. Not saying others didn't have to as well, but a huge deal didn't, and after 250 km's that gets noticeable. What he did was race with the brains, as usual, and get a placing he wouldn't have gotten had he raced like most others in that group.

Is it me, but so far this season all the racing is a bit flat, not really had that bit of something extra.

Although Moreno's attack did seem good for a few moments.
And it seemed like it was the case of Kwiatkowski being weak than a few seconds that Valverde was on the front on Saint Nicolas that made the difference.

What hurt Costa was that he missed the Kreuziger move, and the move he got into counterattacking had a lot of dead weight that were not going to assist because they had men either up the road or were monitoring for their leaders behind. I know Kreuziger did the lion's share of the work in that front group and Caruso didn't help much, but Rui and Roman working together would have made it a more dangerous quartet and I can't realistically see Caruso beating both of them on the finale.
Rui will need a more broken up race like 2010 or 2012 to win LBL, much like Nibali, because if there's a group of 10-12 coming in to the line there's always going to be a stronger sprinter than him in the group. He may get a podium the way he got 4th today (Purito will probably not be around too much longer, for example) but a win will be hard to come by.

Valverde by far the strongest and a thoroughly deserved winner. In hindsight, Katusha gifted it to him by waiting for the last km when they had three riders left at the front after St Nicolas. They did a tactically good last km, but had the numbers to start with these tactics 3k earlier. Risk of losing the race would have been bigger as there were other riders left besides Valverde. In the end they went with safer strategy but lost anyway.

Late to watch, only last few ks, need to rewatch. But man, Valverde bossed it again... I literally take a bow.
Btw, until this year I still thought Alaphillippe was kind of Meersman-type rider and sometimes quicker Gasparotto, me didn't put enough attention
