I feel like Pidcock is being underrated even though he’s sort of off form but he still looks fine, I’ll put him 3rd behind MVDP and Mohoric.

I actually was thinking the opposite. To me, his nutrition issue looks way more likely to be a problem in a long, hard race - and already on Wednesday, he didn't look particularly good anymore late on. Now with 100k more, I'd be surprised if he is much of a factor.

Regarding Pidcock. After Dwars door Vlaanderen i read some comments from his side. On how Pogi still has much to learn to be a factor in such races. A day or two later reading again some comments from his side. On how there will be 'no place for caution' due to Pogi aggression at Ronde van Vlaanderen.

Apparently it is snowing. Hence luck can play a role on such race. On a good day i would give somebody like van der Poel the edge. But Pogi tends to be smart at such (prep) races. Didn't watch Dwars door Vlaanderen but i could imagine Pogi didn't go all in. He hence could still have a full tank. For Pogi i would say he could end up winning it. But he wont' win all races of this type in 2022. It's just unrealistic. Personally i was surprised of his schedule for 2022. The way i understand it is lets try to win some and lets get as much experience as possible from the others.

There's been hardly any mention of Asgreen. It'll be tough for him as the only team mate he's likely to have around near the end is Senechal and while he's looked good at times, he seems to get mechanicals or caught up in a crash. Still, I hope he somehow wins it.

I think that this is the best race on the calendar for Asgreen. The length of this race is better for him than for anyone else and I also think the amount of hilly punches is in his advantage compared to the one with less cobbled hills.

Wonder if he is underestimated by van der poel et al as well. Don’t think so to be honest, so even though he is not mentioned a lot I think he won’t profit from underestimation by his competitors. But if he isn’t dropped after around 180-200k it will be more difficult with every next hill to get rid of him for his competitors.

I think Pogi will beat MVDP on Sunday because Pogi can go all the way for 260kms, whereas the distance will be too long for Mathieu. Mathieu lacks training, still. Pogi had perfect preparation.

In 300kms MSR, this was no problem, because the first 250kms were quiet. In Flanders, it‘ll be full gas from kilometer 80 or 100 on.

I expect Pogi will drop Mathieu deep in the finale.

In fact, I expect Pogi to perform one of his soul-destroying moves. Remember, Pogi destroyed Dumo‘s soul in PDBF, so that Dumo was unable to ride a bike race for months, soon afterwards. Fausto got destroyed in Lombardia, 2021. Now, in Flanders 2022, it could be Mathieu who‘ll become Pogi‘s next victim.

I could imagine that Roodhooft and Mathieu will call Niermann and Wout ten times during Saturday, to make Wout come and ride RVV. Mathieu will need Wout to cover Pogi‘s attacks on Sunday. Just like it was in San Remo…

:)

I like Pog. I think he wants to ride aggressively on Sunday and he has earned a lot of respect for his abilities and strength. The guy is a real champ in my opinion.

The problem is that he is on untestet terrority in Flanders. Poel is not. Asgreen is not. Benoot is not. And so on.

He does not have a team around him and his psysique is not of a classics rider. Sure he has shown a good figure earlier this year, but this is a different race.

It's cold on Sunday. I am here now and it's colder than many previous years. So it's going to be a really tough race. I don't think he has what it takes to conquer the Belgian monument in these conditions.

Campenaerts wins this one.

Pogacar today equaled the best historical time in the final kilometer and a half of the Oude Kwaremont. Same record as Gilbert attacking (3:21 at 482 W⚡) to go solo in the 2017 edition.

Doesn't mean much for the race obviously, the race is dynamic and these short efforts while training show that he has good form, but in these classics that is only one part of success.
PS: Notice that Mohoric was only a second slower in E3 a week ago.

Don't tell ASO.

Fleche and Liege are actually ASO races… Now imagine this:

I often think the entertainment factor of pro cycling is good in the races, but could be increased a lot - especially outside the races! :)

How about this: Rog and Pog are standing on the stage for the teams presentation for FW in Blegny, in a few weeks‘ time, on a Wednesday. Suddenly, Prudhomme enters the stage, pulls Primoz off the stage, and shouts, „Do you want to ride my Tour de France this year? Then there‘s no FW and no LBL for you, this year! Take a plane and ride Romandie, if anything!“. :) smile

I don't think he's underestimated at all. He is last year's winner and one of the best cobbled classics riders in the last couple of years. I think he is among almost everyone's 3 biggest favourites for the race and the bookies seem to think the same. Even in this thread, if you look back, he is mentioned as a favourite right behind a fully healthy Wout and MvdP and rightfully so.

Hans Degreve might be a good outside bet...

It was done in terrible conditions and on wet roads. The strava is starting to be Pogi's mean of psychological warfare. Another exodus of top riders is taking place (just like at MSR), hopefully MVP is mentally strong enough to start.
