Ironically, Pidcock probably lost today because he has been considered too good. If he had been in Del Toro´s wheel, accepting that he wasn't the favorite, he would have had a better chance in the sprint.
Wow! I see it 180 degrees different, I thought Pidcock's jump was bold and beautiful, I was super stoked to see him attack instead of sit in and roll the dice on a sprint with other talent, including Del Toro who has an OK sprint.
Pidcock's was only answered by one guy who is having an extraordinary season.. I personally like seeing Tom go off the front instead of conservatively suck Del Toro wheel until it's sprint time..
Potomac posted the numbers.. for me despite Pidcock not winning, he wins with me for style points and mixing it up with everyone.. Del Toro has luck with him and his move worked but Tom also gave him something to shoot for.. I respect that strong second place.

Agree, except that Del Toro doesnt have luck with him. He was strong enough to chase down Tom and won convincingly in the sprint. The best rider won.

Tom effort was brave and definitely deserve his 2nd place. Very good ride. He would have won if not for Del Toro.

I am a Pidcock fan, new one. I really enjoy the way he acts, races and talks about racing and other racers. He is confident and knows when he gets beat it's usually from a quality ride not from him making stupid mistakes. I think Del Toro is careful to consider others also, quick with compliments about his team and other quality guys who contest him..

Yes just watched the replay. A valiant attempt by Tom Pidcock who continues his great form for Q36.5. Only beaten by an amazing Del Toro. Hard to believe Del Toro is still only a neo pro the way he jumped across from the chasing pack. Dare I say like Roglic of old?
Perhaps, if you only look to this race.

Otherwise, I dont think Del Toro remind me much of Roglic.

I wouldn't call him a neo pro. To me, it doesn't make sense to use this term beyond the first pro season, especially now that long-term contracts are common, even for young riders.

Roglic's time in 2023 is very revealing. No one is going to convince me that Roglic's 2023 since La Vuelta until Lombardia wasn't significantly superior to Roglic's 2024.

Being that Vuelta his second complete GT and being strong in the 21 stages.

I think it was fast for all the ascents put together. It looked like the first three were faster than the non-Pogi ones before.
They were slower today with a long-attack than in a sprint in 2023.
It's a good time, but not impressive. This time was impressive in 2016 for Chavez. Setting at the same time as Vlasov and a slower time than in a sprint from a previous year isn't particularly impressive.

Roglic today far from his best.

I don't speak Spanish, so I cannot write it such that you can understand it.

The list of times is only about the last one, except for last year's race.

My point was not about the last climb.

My point was about the first three ascents of San Luca this year.

Pidcock seemed to go to early, but a gutsy effort (as the press say). Del Toro won, which was pretty much as predicted, although he made hard work of it.
