300km used to mean something. Nowadays with how well trained the pro's are and how much this race is figured out, it doesn't mean that much anymore. Last year they were barely attacking because 'everyone was still fresh' on the Poggio, after 285km.
I don't know if this race needs to change. I know it could be a lot better, but I don't know if people would like to see a lottery be changed into a genuine monument.

Add Le Manie and 20km (make it 310). Still a lottery and also a much harder race.

No longer a monument when we stop calling it one I guess... which may take decades. Are the pros as big on calling monuments 'monuments'?
So excited. I don't feel good about Gaviria now. 7 hours after such a crash... I don't think he can do it. I think it will be a pack of +20 riders finish, barring a late crash because: Too many teams that have faith in their sprinter. Repaved Poggio(?) Good weather. No Le Manie (spelling) or Cancellara.
