Exactly. Alpecin are overdue for choosing between the two and spending the money in better classics support for Van der Poel and maybe an additional sprint train signing.
I thought I heard somewhere that Merlier is leaving next year but I'm not sure where I heard that or where he's going

Impressed by Kristoff all year tbh. Didn't expect anything from him anymore.
Also what a performance from the 2 DSM riders.

Honestly feel like Alpecin made a mistake riding that hard trying to keep Jakobsen and De Lie behind. Probably would've had more chance with an extra teammate and QS/LTS trying to control for a sprint.

this may be technically true but my recollection of the 2015 flanders win is that he pretty much rode solo to the finish with terpstra clinging on for dear life
Didn't Terpstra spend the entirety of that finale cooperating to make sure he was going to get to a sprint he couldn't possibly win?
