People also said Asgreen could never win a sprint vs van der Poel. Or Kwiatkowski would never beat Sagan in a sprint yet did it twice... you just never know after a hard race. Asgreen even said last year he worked till the last km to make sure vdp did not get any time to recover. Hindsight is always easy to say Kristoff obviously beats Terpstra but after 260k it's more who has anything left in the tank and not who is usually faster. Heck, just 2 years ago Declercq beat Merlier for 2nd at de Panne.
Jakobsen stopped pedalling in the last 20 m, and De Lie just about got around him before the line.

Just finished watching 'as live' seeing as I saw the weather forecast beforehand.
Fantastic edition! Only 30 riders finishing and that attack by Kristoff on the cobbles to solo away to victory was a thing of beauty.
What a lovely way to follow up the brilliant win by Girmay at GW from a really likeable team of riders.

I think his legs just exploded as he started his sprint from 300 meters out. But yeah in a sprint for the win Jakobsen would've won that, De Lie started his sprint from too far back. Looking at his number tho, his sprint was still pretty impressive for such a hard race. Jakobsens sprint must've been pretty good too.

a sprint for, what was it, 16th? is hardly worth of note compared to a sprint for the win though

Not necessarily; the way him and Ala have been riding looks like it is for an Ardennes warm-up rather than a GC place. If you're going for GC you don't do 1.5km readouts two days in a row. They're having fun!
Sort of, but he stayed behind once they hit the flamme rouge. Not much he could have done in that situation, I think, other than hope weird things happen in the sprint after a 250km+ race.

And yes, why did Alpecin insist to think that pairing was going to work? Even when it did it still looked awkward. Now I wonder if any of the Kittel's wins in this race involved Degenkolb at his prime, Iike some at stage races. But they are more distinct types of sprinters anyway.

The Welsford guy from DSM (3rd place?) has impressive shoulders. He looks fantastic on the bike. Broad, muscular shoulders.
That is category MVDP, Petit, Engoulvent, Gaudin. And one level above category Pedersen, Stuyven, and Kristoff.
I suppose that‘s why Benoot left DSM for JV for 2022. He didn‘t want to be teammate of Welsford at DSM in 2022, because he thought Welsford would make fun of Benoot‘s shoulders…
