Brilliant Bernal!

Decent rides by Majka and Yates too.

More than decent day 2 back from a broken pelvis

Hope Tejay is a good saver because he is going to be making a lot less money when his contract ends

Who's going to sign him if he can't even perform at the ToC ?
Rally Cycling?

He only finished a 15/20 seconds ahead of Tao, who was absolutely blowing when he sat up at 2k to go. Very poor from Tejay.

Waterloo is correct about Yates, that’s a very good effort after his injury.

If there is nothing else, the one thing I can forever boast about is having the first English interview/feature about Bernal :)

I am surprised that Jancouver has not graced this thread with his presence, it is after all his 'home race'.

Tejay is good at riding tempo on more moderate gradients at high altitude and has (or at least had) decent TT skills, he could still finish on the podium.

Even if he finishes on the podium it won’t change the fact that he’s heading for a significant pay cut.

Too easy for Bernal. Opponents consisting of guys with no form on the one hand and guys with limited ability on the other.

I wouldn’t say it was a total blowout by the home riders. McNulty blew at the end but lived up to the hype. Wasn’t expecting him to climb that well against the Sky train in his first real test. He’s still only like 19 or barely 20 years old.

Hart very impressive. Majka good, Yates good. Bernal, just a scary scary talent. Would love to see him given a free reign at the Vuelta...
Who else is gonna lead Sky at the Vuelta?
Knowing Sky they’ll probably have him riding tempo for Geraint.

Add to that, how many actual real GC contenders are at this race, 3 maybe? That includes Bernal. I'm putting Yates (who's coming off an injury into that group. Then maybe count either Majka or Tejay for the 3rd one. Not exactly a field full of GC riders.

Of course the NBC guys kept mentioning that Bernal dropped Quintana at Catalonia earlier this year. Referring to stage 4. What they never bothered to mention or maybe they forgot or didn't know was that Quintana was riding as a super domestique in that race for Valverde. They also never bothered to mention that Valverde not Bernal won that stage.

I don't know. Henao. De La Cruz. Thomas. Poels. Froome. Ellisonde. A tough ask for a bairn in cycling years but would love to see it..

Any objective observer would be extremely impressed by Bernal’s performance in that stage, it was him against both Quintana and Valverde after all. Valverde won that sprint pretty easily, of course, but all he had to do was follow wheels all the way to the top.

Oh I agree that Bernal's performance in that stage was impressive. However, the announcers did leave out some fairly important information on that stage such as he didn't actually win the stage.

Since they removed the podium girls, I have no choice but to ignore this race :D

Still better field and course than TdU ...

Can't argue regarding the course at all, real hills, mountains even. As to the field, that is usually determined by the time of year, some are still hibernating in January.

As to the Podium girls, well Sagan is there....perhaps they needed to be kept away.

So you do not need the signature from world champ on a rainbow jersey.

Nice ride by McNulty. Disappointed a bit in Powless. Interested to see how both do in TT.

McNulty is really impressive. Losing 75 seconds to Bernal in a MTF is not bad at all considering that his speciality is TTing. I’m really looking forward to the ITT later this week. Against this field, he should do really well. And he’s only 20...

You have no idea what is in my jersey collection ... this is just a tiny sample from one of the previous ToC ...

Tolhoek in 4th is pretty unexpected, where did that come from?
Quit the sleeping pills? Is actually riding awake?

Coming back from a knee injury. Earlier this year he finished 10th in the Jebel Hafeet MTF in a better field.

Lmao

Bernal did what expected, just too easy. Will watch later - Sivakov a bit disappointing, no?
