What stages would you suggest I definitely have to stay up and watch the race?
Stage 2, possibly stage 3, and stage 6?
(To be fair, I'm probably gonna stay up every night, but if I have to give up some nights...)

Yep, pretty much all of the major sprinters are also here, but at least they're going to get a shot at a some wins. I mean, given the sheer number of sprinters here, they are probably going to get their chance to sprint for the win in every flat stage.

I mean, I'm skipping the whole thing on principle, but if I weren't, the two mountain stages, Laguna Seca and the ITT are going to be the relevant stages.
Fun fact: the Long Beach stage also finishes on a racing circuit, like the Laguna Seca one - Long Beach has a long running street circuit, from F1 back in the 80s, then shortened a couple of times and since hosting ALMS, Champ Car and eventually the Indycar series. The start/finish is on Shoreline Drive, but the drivers are heading the opposite direction to the cyclists.
Second fun fact: Before 1991, Long Beach was part of area code 213, which came to a wider global audience when referenced by members of the hip-hop supergroup which consisted of Warren G, Nate Dogg and Snoop Doggy Dogg. By the time the members of the group started having hits, however, the area codes had been reclassified and Long Beach had become part of area code 310.
I would say there's little need to stay up for the three pan-flat sprint stages. The other four will be relevant.RedheadDane said:

Pretty good route with some nice stages. Bernal has a great chance to win this and hopefully Adam Yates can show some form although it’s an unknown with his first race back after injury.

Don't start snorting cocaine to stay up for the Tour of California man. It's not worth it. If you'd live on the other side of the world and it was necessary during the cobbled classics season, okay, but it's just the ToC man, don't do it!
