How could sprinters teams + BMC let this happen :surprised: Also why that guy who won it has only 4 race days this season?

He had a crash in November, then suffered from a heavy concussion and the aftermath was very long. Only started training 4 weeks ago.

Great victory for Roompot, is it their first on WT-level?

No, Weening won a stage in the Tour de Suisse two years ago.

But it's very rare for a PCT team to win on the WorldTour these days. Outside Paris-Nice where Direct Energie won two stages with Cousin and Hivert, this is the only win for a non WorldTeam in a WT race all season.

That's true. Not including overall classifications, there have been held 136 WT racedays so far this year. Out of those 136 WT races, only 3 are won by a Pro Conti team (that's like 2% +/- depending on the calculation method). In contrast, Pro Conti teams represent, on average, 23% of the peloton in all WT races. So based on numbers alone, they don't win as much as their start list share suggests they should IF all teams had an equal chance of winning a race.

Last year, PCTs won only 4 races (Calmejane in the Tour, Bouhanni in Catalonia, Denifl in Vuelta and Warbasse in Suisse) so it's not anything new.

In 2016 when the calendar was smaller, however, they won 8 (4 by Bouhanni, 1 by Weening, 1 by Gasparotto (the Amstel Gold Race, no less), 1 by Calmejane and then of course the Giro MTT). I don't know the numbers in earlier seasons, though.

Come on the guys in the break!

Nobody really wanted to chase, and when they had to, it was too late! Chapeau Roompot, and all the others in the break!

Also, that was a very strong break. You just don't let Mohoric slip away and Taco won Schaal Sels over Van Aert last year and battled with Van Aert and van der Poel, beating the former, in another race (Hageland?) as well proving immense strength. The others aren't slouches either so even if four of them were PCT it was obviously an unforgiveable mistake to give them four and a half minutes' advantagebon a stage with a very technical run-in.

A strong ride and a clever win by a guy with one of the best names in the peloton. He’s a very good rider as of course should be clear from the fact that he took a stage and was one of the strongest riders at the most important race of the year, the Ras, a couple of years ago. Great comeback from a nasty injury too. He’s too good for the second division.
