great.. that makes up for live coverage :D

And btw.. thats just surreal..

I knew you would appreciate a good song.

Anyhow, as far as I remember, last year the website had live images, but they only announced it 30m before the start and the quality was rather poor. Another tip, I believe the race was covered by TV Murcia 7 or http://www.7rm.es/

Let me browse that website...

last year they used

rtsp://directo.7rm.es/broadcast/7rm.rm

perhaps this year they'll have it here:

http://www.7rm.es/servlet/rtrm.servlets.ServletLink2?METHOD=LSTBLOGALACARTA&serv=BlogPortal2&sit=c,6

where they have a live and/or taped broadcast of 7rm

or perhaps through http://www.7rm.es/flashjw/player.swf

So, we should have a poll.

Who are the contenders?

Valverde
Menchov
LA
Klody
Wiggins

who else?

It would be absolutely amazing if Valverde won this race. Especially because he's not scheduled to race it (he's anchoring the Paris-Nice squad).

Christian Vandevelde, David Zabriskie. Pieter Weening got on the podium last time.

No selections but HTC, Cervelo, Bougues Telecom, Vacansoleil, Netapp(?!) and Milram have it on their calendars. Not Saxo Bank, Omega Pharma.

Tony Martin? Xavier Tondo? Linus Gerdemann?

So I'm assuming those Rock rumors about Murcia have come and gone? or is there an 11th hour situation here?

anyone found any coverage yet.. ive scoured the spanish stations and there is nothing.. :/
I see you and Bala have been on the case I was going to ask about.
We have had live, if a bit wayward coverage, these past 2 or 3 years.
Looks doubtful, though.
I see that GP Samyn has a live feed for tomorrow afternoon.
here
Something may turn up....

im gonna cautiously give it to wiggins. why ? because i don't think other big names are there yet.

kloeden looked modestly at algarve, menchov might be phasing his peak for later in the season since hes not riding the giro, armstrongs goal i think is the itt only. we'll see.

I reckon Armstrong wins this (or at minimum podiums it). I would prefer Kloden was RS leader, but I have a strange feeling that Armstrong may be feeling the pressure from Contador after winning Algrave.

Realistically tho, he should go all out in the time trial. If he can't seriously challenge for the win in this time trial then I think he would start to panic actually. It's not the arrogance of 04 and 05 anymore. I actually believe if he doesn't win a stage race (or at least a stage race TT) before he reaches France then his confidence will take a hit.

The old strategy of 'win nothing, then win tour' doesn't hold anymore for me. Contador has shown us that winning early stage races leads to gaining confidence leads to arrogance at the tour. You can hold decent form for 3-4 months. Not top-peak form, but decent form, like Murcia podium form.

I reckon podium is between Vandevelde, Menchov or Armstrong/Kloden (depending on who leads). Wiggins will keep us waiting and not try to win yet. Too early for him IMO

haha it would be very unlike him wouldn't it.

confidence must be lacking for the guy tho.

he knows he's behind contador in both TTs and mountains right now.

I reckon the only way to beat Contador is to talk on the bike. not the twitter, not velonews, just the bike. Just like Andy Schleck does.

This goes for all the GT contenders this year really, not just armstrong. If contador lines up at france in July, looks to his left and right and sees that he is the only decent contender with a couple of stage race wins under his belt, his confidence sky rockets.

If he looks around and sees, say, Armstrong with Murcia, A Schleck with Tirreno, Valverde with Paris-Nice, Leepy with Cali, F Schleck with Suisse, Wiggins with Duaphine, Sastre/Evans with the Giro!... well then maybe, just maybe, Contador at least feels that his rivals might just step up and 4mins 11seconds is the furthest from his mind.

So I reckon Armstrong podiums at Murcia, at least. But I would prefer RS gave Kloden a leadership role, but perhaps is not keen to be leader, since he never accepted that role fully before...

A couple of points: (1) As far as I know, Andy has never actually beaten AC. And he talks a fair amount of trash for a kid who hasn't been up to the task so far (maybe this year is his breakthrough year). (2) AC doesn't strike me as concerned about others palmares as his own form. When he lines up in July, he'll look left and right and think he's mentally tough and physically ready. As for Armstrong, he already sent the only message that counts this year when he backed out of the Vuelta a Cataluyna.

There's a huge storm around, what did you expect? Just be glad no riders have died yet. We're close to 100 dead because of the storm, if you add Madeira, France, Spain and the guy who died in Belgium

By the way, Jack Bauer is the current New Zealand national champion.

And he's hard as nails. Ex cycle-courier and ex-mountain biker picked up by Endura after only one season of riding on the road.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was aggressive on a couple of stages and made some of the big names sit up and take note.

He also held off Hayden Roulston and Julian Dean (a guy Thor Hushovd raved about during their time at Credit Agricole) in the sprint to win the RR, This boy is a bit special.
