Look, I don't like Valv, and I adore Oscar, but looking at the slow-mo replay several times, I've changed my opinion. The tape clearly shows Valv's bike up beside Oscar before they get too close to the barricades. No, Valv shouldn't be racing right now, but since he is, I would've protested the decision too, in Valv's place.

Thought that was a decent stage, my initial thought was Freire would be disqualified but on the replays, Valverde followed Freire across the road, they came from behind Kolobnev and look where he finished on the road.

Observations, Valverde not suspended but looking super good, also great to see J.Rodriguez racing for himself. I thought Horner looked very strong today and will take a stage sometime soon. Dont know what happened to Sanchez, out of contention anyway. The Schlecks improving quickly just in time for the Ardennes.

the jury did their job, and well done.

Freire goes and goes to the barriers and Valverde is enough strong but cannot pass.
Nothing to compare to EBH and Farrar at Tirreno.

The jury is UCI jury, not spanish jury, and Valverde deserved the win, he was the stronger.

Sorry for all you anti-Valverde people.

Right, I forgot the spanish were evil. Franco, the Inquisition and all. Thank heavens I live in a non-nationalistic, English speaking nation.

that's the problem, that you live in a hegemonic (UK; USA, Australia) system and you don`t know enough about the history of other countries.
So, please, don't start revolving around the basque-spanish issues with ignorance.

You now seem to need a spare pair of eyes up your ass.
All Piti could do, having screwed it up, was wave his arm about.
The farce became more farcical.

Still, Galic Ho will be pleased.

That man shouldn't even been allowed to ride for his part in the Fuentes affair. So which justice are you talking about?
I had assumed that refering to Valverde as "Valv Piti' would denote a heavy smack of sarcasm.

Hello, international uci jury. ;)

I'm just saying, if this was a DSQ, then sure as hell the Hagen/Tirreno incident was.
But the UCI has never been good at anything really

still havent seen todays sprint, but ebh at tirreno should never have been d'qed.

Sorry for the newbie question but what happens to Freire now? What place does he get?

He gets relegated to the last position of the group he finishes with.

There were 24 in that group, so he is 24th but he retains the same time as the group. IE, he is penalized on placing, not on time.

From the front group F. Schleck, Gesink, Valverde, Rodriguez and Horner made a special impression on me.
And a honouroble mention to Intxausti who followed all the moves pretty well.
Vandenbroeck was the 'Evans' of the group. Much wheelsucking and one of the slowing factors when they were chased. Seems he took the replacing of Evans at Omega Pharma quite literally.

But appearently the UCI jury does whatever it feels like on the day itself. They don't take the same point of view everytime. :)

Nooo... you must be kidding. Hard to believe :D

No, it's an UCI Pro Tour race, so there is an international UCI jury.

Weird though, if Hagen/Tirreno is no DSQ, Freire is no DSQ here.

Agree 100%. In fact, I would say that this was not nearly as bad because when Hagen went left, he knew there were wheels inside of him. Oscar was clear when he started, and Valvpiti stuck his front in after that...by choice. BS call by the judges.

The video also clearly shows that when Oscar chose his line to the left, there were no wheels to his left. Valvpiti made the decision to go around left instead of right.

Though watching it live on tv and also the numerous replays after you do see Oscar look to see where Piti boy is and ride to that side, as the Piti boy does start to head left as Oscar does. Thats the reason why the race panel have made the decision. Shame really as the Piti'd one does not deserve to race, never mind being gifted a win.

Personally I liked the look of Hesjedal and Martin from Garmin, both rode well with Martin attempting to break on that very tough final climb, before being caught and passed yet working well to get back and sprint to top 10. Plus, Ryder, tried soloing across before noticing the big group behind and eventually took 3rd after the demotion of Oscar. Potential for good teamwork later in the race.

Yes, but both Martin and Hesjedal come up short when the heat is turned on. They will have a hard time staying top 10
