Wow Dennis, very strong. Guess he has a point to prove!

Men's TT should be good this year, so many favourites compared to last year when it was just Meyer v Bobridge iirc

Bobridge has crashed one kilometre into the men's #roadnats TT. Suspected broken collarbone.

Not good at all, would miss TdU and Track Nats... probably London WC too.

That's sh** for Bobridge.

Great ride by Dennis ( he is very strong clearly ). Rabo will want to sign him up after the Olympics which he might now get to ride ( track ) after Bobridges' crash.

Gillow rode well ( all of the GE women have over the course of the Nats )

Wurf 47'39"
Hepburn 47'30"

Nice time by Wurf, I'm guessing the winner will be high 46'

Rogers 46'36" !
Durbridge 46'20" !!

Last year Meyer won with a 47', don't remember the conditions though.

I wouldn't say Porte failed. The course suits a track rider. Flat, open, windy. Doesn't suit a climber like Porte.

If it was on the Buninyong circuit it may have been a different ball game.

Durbridge was flying!!! Makes sense that him, Hepburn and Wurf were competitive seeing as Wurf needs a contract and the other two will want to make early impressions as neo-pros.

Rogers and Porte looked decent when you consider their main goals are later in the season.

Did Adam Hansen end up riding?

I use failed loosely! I think he's been consistently very good for 18 months and 48kmh isn't quite his best, but he has lost weight hasn't he?

Now that the Aussie champs have progressed enough to ban non-Australians, hopefully the next step will be to have some sort of qualifying standards so its not just the pro's, plus any club racer from Melbourne who wants to drive up the road. Having riders getting shelled on the first lap of the RR or averaging less than 40km/h in the national mens TT championships shouldn't be on. Maybe qualify via state championships if you don't have a pro license or your not in the NRS.

Current update on Bobridge is just bad bruising on his hand/arm. No fracture suspected.

Oh and since Luke won I feel its my duty to post:

Wurf did quite well ( he should have a team for next year )

Porte will do well at Valkenburg but Durbridge/ Meyer ( if they back up from track ) showed that they and Rogers ( if he gets into form later in the year ) should go to the Olympics on a flat course with Cadel. Bobridge might also be in contention if he recovers.

I heard that called over the PA after finishing. A short while later heard more news that it wasn't broken but he had a hand injury. Although no idea to what extent.

It was pretty brutal out in that wind today. From about the 18km point where you turned back into the wind and from there on the wind was in your face.
The top guys still churned out some very fast times though.

Not that big of fail, I think Sky had the plan with Porte to do well in RR and Rogers in TT. And with this race being only race for Porte till next month, he didn't really fail.

Great TT by Durbridge, amazing talent.

Also no cracks in Bobridge collarbone and will join TdU team ( where he will have 2nd scan ), confirmed on GE's facebook page.

A good point. However, here in Denmark (not a cycling nation with that great a peloton, compared to, say, Belgium), every category A rider is allowed to ride the championships. I don't think you should ban club riders; limiting it to cat. A (if it isn't already) ought to be enough.

More important to me would be closing the route entirely. Bobridge getting injured because of a truck blasting by him just isn't right.

Absolute ****ing rubbish. 21 riders only finished because the pace was on from the get go and the peloton never ended up rejoining with the chasing group. FFS, half the pros didn't finish. Limiting who enters means "just a bike shop mechanic" wouldn't be allowed to enter or "that mountain biker guy" wouldn't either. Emphatic no.

No problem with guys who drop once they realise the break isn't coming back - which is why only 21 finished, do have a problem with guys who get popped the first time up the hill on a 16 lap race (which happened on Sunday) and pull out because they shouldn't have been there in the first place. The bike mechanic and the mountain bike guy would have both qualified through the NRS as mentioned in the original post.

Anyone else worthy could easily qualify through the state champs. Clubbies from melbourne who cant take a fast start for more than 10 minutes and are just looking to say they raced the pro's on the w'end should stick to being the kings of the Hell Ride.
