The race was only boring because GB marshalled it to perfection. Personal preference aside, its very hard to complain about the result. Seeing a 7 men single handedly control a World Championship and then have their leader finish it off is something to admire.

And to everyone saying Cav isnt worthy as a world champion: I think he deserves to win it once in his career, next year we will get another kind of course and he wont stand a chance again. But with his qualities, you cant really say hes not a good world champion...

Agreed. Cavendish is one of the, maybe the best sprinter of all time. He needs a WC on his palmares, luckily it wasn't as bad as Zolder. He won't have a chance the next couple of years anyway, so it's good he took it now (outside of the olympics next year of course).

In days where you can barely stay awake, maybe. But I wonder how people will react when the world champion drops in the first 2nd cat, and loses 25 minutes per stage without caring the slightest bit. If he doesn't drop out, that is.

Sorry, didn't realise that all world champs had to be GC contenders or mountain goats. Different courses suit different riders, that's just the way it works.

so - what are the chances of Cav doing the traditional thing for the WC and riding Lombardy ????

People did their *****ing about the course in January. Coming on to pour out bile in the 30 minutes after a hard earned result is pretty pathetic.

The made the race really boring. I hope GB gets little points next year and they only get 3 riders just like last year. Imagine the horror of the sky leadout train next year, it might be even worse than HTC.

Well done to Cavendish for winning it, but it was about as impressive as the usual TDF flat stage. All that a race like that does is devalue the World Champion's jersey.

the UCi pick the course not Cav. Not my favourite race or rider winning, in fact it was a horrible race, a parade almost. But the riders had their chances to take on the Team GB and most failed miserably.

Go ask your favourite riders why they waited for the sprint.

I think the world champion is the rider who has ridden the best all year, but then the UCI would have it's money making race now would it.

Knocking Cav winning a race he entered is pathetic. I'd rather knock, Gilbert and others who have the kick to win in the last kilometres.

This crap about it being bad that a sprinter is in rainbow is such Bullocks. If it was a climber we could argue we watch them thrashed in every TT, same goes for the other style riders. Road racing had various types of riders. Deal with it. It's only fair that sprinters get a chance for world championships every now and then, as other styles of riders often do.

It's also a bit to do with the Cav hate campaign in my eyes. People weren't like this when Cipo got it.

Hushovd was able to ride well in EVERY terrain, including TTs. Same for Ballan. Evans is also a good finisher in restricted groups. My problem isn't it being a spriter: it's that it's a PURE sprinter that can't do anything else. Boonen, for example, was (is) one of the top cobble riders.

Come to think of it, maybe that's what Cav should do: run the cobbles. He's got the weight for it.
