Well Bavarianrider called it in the second post. Might have helped that Degenkolb is a German on HTC though.

EBH had a mechanical just before the second group rejoined the peloton after the split. No chance in getting back in. I think if Wiggins managed 14th, EBH would have been a lot higher up.

I dont think Rodriguez is doing the Tour.
OK,it seems you are right. Last autumn he said he was aiming for Vuelta&Tour and this spring he said Giro&Vuelta.

So if nothing changes I guess we'll have to count him out...

Matthews got quite a lot for the 4th GC slot in the Tour Down Under, well over 100 if I recall.

Me too. Clearly Degenkolb is faster than EBH.
The only question was would he survive the "ramp" and he did.
What do you base this upon? They were as fast at Bayern where Edvald was just coming back from injury. I don't see how Degenkolb's wins against lesser sprinters this season proves that he is "clearly" faster. EBH has beaten every sprinter except from Cavendish in normal sprints. At Degenkolb's age, 22, EBH won a completely flat bunch sprint in T-A against Petacchi, Tyler Farrar etc.

Ha Hagen sucks, even Theo Bos has already beaten Cavendish in a straight up duel twice :p
Well Theo Bos is the fastest sprinter in the world so I don't see how that's "even". If only he had some endurance as well...

You just answered your question yourself.

If some enduranceless, climbing worse than quaranta, sprinter can beat Cavendish, then...all hope is lost for Hagen!
thanks for taking the bait tho

I don't understand. Of course Bos can win races that either are extremely short, don't include hills or have an average speed of 30 km/h. Anyway, I just remembered that EBH beat Cavendish in stage 4 of TDF, so hope is once again restored to mankind!

Shame I wasn't able to get back home from work in time to watch the finish.

Decided to wait for the first vids, but I couldn't hold back anymore. Nice one by Degenkolb it seems.
I feel bad for EBH though... a finish that suits him and than he gets a mechanical. He is quite unlucky indeed.
