The changes to the green jersey favour Cav. Not only have they made intermediate sprints worthwhile, winning stages is more heavily rewarded than in previous years.

Cav would have this wrapped up if the parcours hadn't been perfect for Gilbert.

Give credit to the rider, yes the new point system does make a difference, but name the last time a non-sprinter has declared that he is aiming for the Green jersey? Nobody I can think if in the last 15 years.

The riders can make the race, and seeing the possibilities, Gilbert made it known early that he wants to win the Green Jersey.

nobody bothered for the intermediate sprints before because the break always took them all.

Now the first from the peleton gets points, so its worthwhile.

The new system HAS in fact made it so that winning a stage is rewarded much better in points ... so is better all around for Cav

You probably notice the label at the start of the night, but by the end you forget it every time ;)

Twenty riders have so far left the race. Think that's a lot? It's not. The tenth stage today has 188 riders, and here is how it compares to the last few years:

2010 – 181 riders
2009 - 179 riders
2008 – 169 riders
2007 – 171 riders

-------------------------------------------

I guess this year has just been bad for the GC contenders. Together with the extra dramatic crashes caused by a motorbike and a car gives everyone the feeling this year has been disastrous.

I don't want to take anything away from Gilbert, he's been fantastic.

There are only 178 riders, the race started with 198 riders, 22 teams of 9 . Also another note, is that The last 4 years, the race has already had an Alps or Pyrennes stage, which causes more drops out.

Flecha didn´t liked it though. Calling the award "surreal". He was (which is understandable) furious not receiving an apology from the driver

so are his points

Marcato took the 2 pts as a favour to Hoogerland if the RAI boys are to be believed.

Yup Marcato is going to take all the points today (well 6 of them leaving only 2 for the others) to help Hoogie hold the polka dots. It's quite common and it seems the rest of the break accepts it as well.

I'm pretty sure that unless he falls of his bike he's not quitting while he has the polka dots (and very unlikely to do so even after he loses it)

El Pistolero - I thought it was but not sure if it was the guy in the passenger seat with his head in his hands - and he had had the car taken from him - clearly he was just ashamed ashamed ashamed !

I cant believe that there has not been more info from the culprit - this woman. Wonder what the reaction would have been had she hit Voeckler - Holy Mother of Mercy !!!

the drivers probably not allowed to admit liability, crazy but true. Flecha and Hoogs should get a lot more than a sorry eventually but it will take time.
