Just cos you haven't heard of him doesn't mean he isn't talented. He's been climbing solidly for a few years, this is just his first good GC performance.

I thought 3 or so years ago that he would have a good career. It only took him 3 years to live up and exceed my expectations.

Oh come off it. Froome is a guy whose wikipedia page lists winning the Anatomic Jock Race amongst his key accomplishments. Now he's both one of the best climbers and one of the best time triallists at the Vuelta? If his performances don't count as a surprise, nothing in cycling does.

Are you serious?

Nibali coming under 1km to go. He has done about as well as expected, limiting his losses well.

Nibali will be around 30 seconds down on Wiggins after today.

Edit: Oops, actually less than 10.

Ah, ok now that the Rabo car has passed and Mollema is turning into a dot on the horizon I have calmed down.

I have heard of him. His riding in this Vuelta is vastly better than anything he's ever produced before. He's leading the GC despite working as a domestique!

OK, so it looks like I was right about Wiggins not pulling out as huge an advantage as some people were expecting - but I was so, so wrong about Froome. Is he this year's Velits?

For the record, I'm referring to my saying that I doubted Wiggins would be in red by a minute. Now he won't even be in red, but Froome will. Very interesting, and Fuglsang looking good too.

Are you serious? You clearly know **** all about cycling.

froome is an ok tt'r but him climbing with the best isn't such a common thing.

I very much doubt he can hold onto this sort of form.

nibbles not so bad. 1.12 to wiggo - pretty good. He can take this from wiggo imo.

Nibali is collapsing over the last stretch I think. Its taking him forever to reach Salamanca

Did the final stretch slightly quicker than Wiggins, who will be kicking himself this evening, whilst pretending to be happy for Froome.

Looks like Nibali will defend his Vuelta.
Wiggins will fade badly in the last week, especially on Angliru and Penha Cabarga.
