Froome most likely had the highest absolute power output (heaviest guy in the front group, brought Wiggins back) today and knows how sit on an ITT bike as well, wouldnt be surprised to seem him finish in the top 10 tomorrow.

+1 to all points

except you forgot to mention the nibs diesel making a sound contribution to his overall win. the russian will move up many places on the gc, doubt he'll be
in top 10 after tomorrow. wiggo is on fire and may surpass spartracus:cool:

I predicted the Shark would win and he is back in pole position after today and should still be tomorrow. I agree that a Wiggo win tomorrow is a reasonable possibility and thought about maybe switching the first two positions.

i really think wiggins will be in red after tomorrow with like a 30+ sec advantage over nibbles. the thing is. can he hold that gap on the angliru and peña cabarga? climbs and suit him a lot less then today's climb.

I really didn't think todays climb suit him as well. I mean 10-12% sections for 3km and still he was up there. I know he wasn't at the front on the steepest sections, but he wasn't far behind. He is surprising me. I agree though that it's unlikely that Wiggins won't lose atleast a minute on the Angliru...atleast!

Wiggins played right into their hands by looking so good today.

Lol.

I don't think you get it.

Jrod looked great yesterday, but sucked today.

Wiggins looked great today, so tomorrow..

I think you'll find the logic is water-tight.

In other news, I just saw a blue plate. Therefore, all plates are blue.

Yup, they're all going to attack him tomorrow.. uh wait

I think I smell a troll

I think Cancellara will win tomorrow since I get the feeling Martin isn't in the greatest form, but I don't have a clue where I base this on. Should be a great duel anyways and Wiggins might actually beat them as well, but I expect him on nr.3 behind Cancellara and Martin.

Those 3 will take atleast 1:30 on the next GC contender with the exception of Brajkovic, but I dont think Jani will be a top3 contender anyways.

Mollema and Nibali within 2:30 of the nr.1.

Oh wait I forgot Fuglsang.... @ 1 minute and 10 seconds behind the nr.1 :)

Purito @ 5 minutes.

edit: I probably forgot more!

edit: Menchov for example..... Oh feck it.. enough predictions :D

If Sky have any sense whatsoever, Froome will be nowhere near the top 10 tomorrow and will be at least 5 or 6 minutes down on the winner. They need him conserving all the energy he can so that he can do that job for Wiggins on La Manzaneda, Lagos de Somiedo and Anglirú too.

Froome will be going all out. Lofkvist, Possoni, Cioni, Zandio etc will be taking it easy. With a rest day ahead I can't really fault the decision.

It depends how much of his performance stems from being up there himself, and the confidence and motivation that provides, over and above being Bradley's bag carrier.

Nah, for two reasons a) as above, it's a rest day on Tuesday, b) it's good to have a team mate relatively high up on GC, as the other teams have to keep an eye on him and as plan B if something happens to Wiggo. Wiggo is the undisputed leader, so there's not going to be a problem with another guy being high up.

that makes sense. (so does what Tank Engine says)

seeing froome up there pounding away for wiggins made me think of roman kruezinger (sp?) last year slaving for nibali. wondering...i didn't check where the rest of the liquigas team was today...

cancellara came in 3rd last year and i recall being surprised about the itt results. also wondering if he'll hold back just a little or have an off day.

1) ?
2) cancellara
3) wiggins
4) martin, t.
5) fuglsang
menchov and phinney somewhere uh...up there.

my only complaint is, i wont be able to watch.

nibali can keep it close, i hope. but that crash bothered me. leaning toward wiggans being in the red jersey.

What Tank Engine says makes sense. However, I simply don't think Froome is anything like the GC threat that Kreuziger is (or Rodríguez when he was doing that job for Valverde in '08 and '09), hence I don't feel he can realistically play that secondary-contender role, instead will need to superdom the way Dani Navarro did for Contador in 2010.

If Sky think he can perform at the level of J-Rod in '09 or Kreuziger last year, I guess they should have him go for it. But I don't have that faith, and so suggested they should conserve as much for Wiggins' domestiques as possible - they may well need them when it comes to Farrapona and Anglirú.

I agree in thinking that Froome is not the GC threat that Kreuziger or JRod were, but if Froome puts in a strong TT then other teams will have to at least worry that he might be. If he doesn't then he'll play the superdom role, but I can't see the point of giving away a decent GC position, especially before a rest day. From what I remember, Navarro was not in a strong GC position in the 2010 Tour coming into the mountains, but I might be wrong.

As for Wiggins/Froome debate so far Froome hasn't looked that much worse than Wiggins and is only 3 seconds off on GC. It's too early to clip his wings.

Yup, I can't think of anything better calculated to kill his motivation - once they get in this position, hard as it may be to believe, even domestiques have dreams.

If Froome was there purely to be a domestique he would have dropped off the back of the group after doing the work for Wiggins today.

Chris can time trial, and he is looking at a decent GC position,l and if he rides to his potential tomorrow he will still be well in the top ten after the TT.

He doesnt have a new contract for Sky yet, but one is in the offing. The Vuelta is very much his chance to show he is worth the investment. Wouldnt surprise me if Sky announce an extension on one of the rest days as they did in the Tour with Geraint and Swifty.

Wasn't Kreuziger more like Dani Navarro than Purito in 2009? He was over 6 minutes behind Anton, Rodriguez and Nibali before Xorret de Cati, where he arrived at 8'12" with Andy Schleck. I doubt that at any point of the race he seemed dangerous to Nibali's opponents, Fromme is in better position to play this role.

i am very interested to see how taylor phinney goes tomorrow. his first long itt in a grand tour will tell us a lot about what kind of rider he is. especially if he is targeting it. the race of truth is more truthy for some than others.

can he top 10?

that would be awesome!

how much will he lose to the "bigs"?

if he complains about the heat one more time they need to make him peak for paris nice and the spring classics. that'll learn him.

canc will be testing himself for the worlds tomorrow.

will he be going all out? or will he go 90 percent? will a 90 percent cancellara win anyway with the current field? he has not spent a dime of energy in this race so far so my guess is he crushes it at near max.

what is tony martin's form? he is obviously peaking for worlds too. doesn't look that good to me. but that's why they call it the race of truth, i s'pose.

Wiggins in red, Cancellara wins, J-Rod 4mins+ down.
