Looking at start times see that Martin has been placed between Froome and Wiggins. is that deliberate to prevent Wiggins from getting an advantage from having a team mate ahead?

is that standard practice? (at one race earlier in the year contador had his team mate ahead of him and remember thinking surely that could be used to his advantage somehow)

Today is likely to be a bit of a hard landing for Dan Martin. He says that he's never been in a TT this long and "it's hardly what I'm good at" in one of his interviews yesterday.

Still, if he's going to race Grand Tour's seriously, he has to learn how to TT so he might as well start now I suppose.

If Froome was there purely to be a domestique he would have dropped off the back of the group after doing the work for Wiggins today.

Chris can time trial, and he is looking at a decent GC position,l and if he rides to his potential tomorrow he will still be well in the top ten after the TT.
He doesnt have a new contract for Sky yet, but one is in the offing. The Vuelta is very much his chance to show he is worth the investment. Wouldnt surprise me if Sky announce an extension on one of the rest days as they did in the Tour with Geraint and Swifty.

Froome ain't in the top 10 atm just like Brad?

Yes, be interested to see how Kloden goes. Other Radioshackers have been up there to take care of the team competition challenge so if not on top form it makes sense for him to take it easy and wait for the time trial.

It is a flat tt, I don't see van den Broeck doing that much on this course. He'll do something similar to Nibali.

I can't remember when I've actually looked forward to an ITT so much. If Wiggins smokes this he could be in Red by a tidy margin.

in this year's "Österreich Radrundfahrt" (Tour d'Autriche), Kessiakoff finished 5th in the 30.10 km TT, 55sec behind Grabsch and some 9sec behind Phinney (who came in 4th)

The Time Trail in Podersdorf is also very flat and always very windy - so even though it was a bit shorter, it might hold some clues for today.

btw, Machado was 22sec, Menchov 51sec behind Kessiakoff.

Kessiakoff is indeed a dark horse for the GC in this Vuelta. A bit under the radar, but always top 10 so far. Good TT as well... interesting.

Realistically Wiggins, Nibali or Fuglsang will get the red jersey after today.

I think the battle for the overall is already down to 3/4 men even if still so many are within 1'30 of the leader.
Wiggins and Nibali are now my top favorites. I don't believe anymore in Scarponi or Rodriguez.
Mollema and Vandenbroeck are the next to think of after Wiggins and Nibali
Dan Martin maybe if he can limit the damage in the time trial.
Fuglsang already lost 50 seconds yesterday so he will lose minutes on the other tough mountain stages. So after the TT he will fall back automatically.

So in order of likelyhood, end winner of Vuelta:
Wiggins/Nibali
Mollema/Vandenbroeck
Dan Martin
others (from Fuglsang/Rodriguez/Scarponi to Kessiakoff/Cobo etc)
