Just for the same reason people want Contador in a race.

Without it, it's boring times 10000.

Most boring 1 day race of the year - Bjarsnte pjil
Most broing stage race of the year - Catalunia
Most boring monument of the year - LBL
Most boring gt of the year - Giro.

Who were the winners of those?

just some guy said:

Mikel Nieve (Snow).

The filtered out word is b.astard.

Michael Snow, sounds like an English cricketer of the seventies and not one of the best climbers around lol.

He should join Sky.

Erm, Gilbert was part of the awesomeness of Milan-San Remo and the Ronde, so what are you trying to prove here? Contador was also part of the awesomeness of the Tour. And Gilbert as well.

Catalunya was actually quite exciting stuff if we can believe the cyclists who entered it, but the race wasn't shown live unless on some obscure tv channel(so how can you even judge?) :)
Besides, Paris-Nice was by far the most boring race. Guess who was lacking? ;)

And Brabantse Pijl was ten times more exciting than Vattenfall cyclassics, G-W or tons of other one day races. Doubt you even watched the race.

There is pleasure to see a close race with the result in doubt up until the final metres, but there is also pleasure in seeing the best at what they do show us why they are the best at what they do. I enjoy both.

I know Gilbert and especially Contador (who sometimes does more than wait for the last hill) can make some races exciting. But you said races are 1000 times more boring without them. Is a close battle for victory really so much more boring than a foregone conclusion?

Gilbert actually missed the break at Brabantse Pijl and had to close the gap on his own :)
Plus I also enjoyed E3 Prijs very much and that was the most dominating fashion a one day race was won this season(also because of the lesser field though).

And Leukemans said that he had to stop Gilbert from attacking with 5 laps to go at that race because there was still enough time. To answer your silly sentence between the brackets. Plus there are plenty of examples of Gilbert attacking before the final hill.

I don't find a close victory exciting because that means that 90% of the time the fact that it's so close, is because they never attacked.

Yes, I find GTs without Contador an incredible bore from time to time because no one ever seems to attack from 8km out like he does all the time. They wait for the final km like Joaquim Rodriguez. I can enjoy a dominating performance, knowing you're seeing a freak of nature riding is a lot more fun than seeing a bunch of second tier climbers not being able to drop each other IMO.
