The race wasn't too hard for him. I had never seen such a big group at Lombardia before the final hill.

a big bunch being together doesn't man it wasn't hard. it was so hard that it all stayed together. but the final seperated the men from the boys in climbing

9th or better would see him oust Wiggans from the top spot on the UCI points table.

That was my point;)

I thought 10th would be sufficient too though.

when it's very steep, then no. gaps are so small then that after it all are together. but never mind trying to explain to you. you know absolutely nothing about cycling

Fourth year in a row people are talking about how this race is too hard for Gilbert.

;)

I agree. The big climbers will have to make this race really hard starting at the Muro. That´s their only chance to get rid of Gilbert, but they won´t because they are afraid to blow up.

Disappointing? In his current form Gesink couldn't have done anything in Lombardy.

Not that Mollema is any different, but maybe he's been sandbagging

That would be awesome. I´m not sure if he has the legs for it , but let´s hope he tries.

Just read he won Milan - Torino so I guess his form is fine.

Allthough GdL will be different I hope Alberto got confidence for this win and will try an early attack :)

No need for such pessimism, Contador is racing. If he has to attack early to get rid of Gilbert, he will.

Solo attacks are useless, as Nibali showed last year. Although Nibali maybe isn't the best rider to maintain an advantage, as he proved in Liege again this year.

Simple solution: Nibali goes with Contador ;)

Meh, if you ask me it was clear at the worlds Gesink was tired and doing everything pure on willstrength. He's been going at it for a year now. Since he broke his leg he has had no rest. Revalidation+training+racing..

He couldn't have done anything in Lombardy.

Mollema is better than people think, he was good at the worlds but wasted too much power with coming back.

in lombardy it was an act of desperation at clearly he didn';t feel too good and in lbl he rode against a monster iglinskiy that was way better

He didn't feel too good? He dropped everyone during the race. And not because they wanted to (except for Gilbert, maybe).

Time to scale down expectations for Nibbles.
Only hope for a long distance attack is Berto at this point.

And this is so because...? I for one am waiting for early action from both of them. Muro might just be enough to make the crucial difference and render long(er) range attacks a feasible option.

On that department, however, much will depend on the conditions of the day, both weather and form fluctuations. It's late season, so freshness might be a factor. Hope the stars align well.

Gilbert and Contador there, the real Muro there, so one could hope for weather conditions as in 2010 - and the battle might be Gilbert vs Contador this time, instead of Gilbert vs Scarponi.

That´s what Contador´s ban was good for; otherwise, there´d never be the chance to see such constellation.
