What a beautiful place to finish a race.
Sitting at home with the flu :(, the only time i can watch the Giro in real time. My legs remember the climb with pain even though, over the years, my mind remembers it with great fondness. I pray to see a battle of the "Giants" tomorrow. My heart going to Purito for the win

May be a stage for the breakaway? Katusha and who else would want to bring them back?

All sprinter teams: no
Liquigas, RSNT, Garmin: no
Lampre, Androni, Astana: maybe
Colnago: likely

Katusha, Lampre, Astana - for sure
Could see Sky throwing a guy or two to help as well

Liquigas are the strongest team in the race and they have been working randomly since the begining of the race. Maybe "To keep Basso out of trouble", or to "Keep the pace high to prevent attacks". Whatever reason they have worked on sprint stages this Giro and I dont think it will change on this stage either.

Garmin will work just to keep break in reasonable check (up to 11 min) before Liqui bring it down, Lampre may also want to work for the stage win and the opportunity to put time into Basso. To catch what is not going to be a strong break wont take all that much and i am sure those teams with possibly the assistance of the teams you mentioned (katusha, Androni, Astana, Colnago) will easily be able to catch the break.

Actually liquigas will want the break to succeed so that Basso doesn't lose bonus seconds. Wouldn't surprise me at all if they were to put a man of their own into a break

That would be logical but they havent be very logical so far this Giro, they have just ridden at the front for the sake of it and i can see that continuing until tomorow.

Anyway as mentioned in the other thread I dont think the GC contenders are currently concerned all that much with time bonuses. Even if they were I think Liquigas's logic would be to ride a hard pace to not allow any attacks and then what happens at the finish happens. At least they wont lose much time, even if they do lose bonus seconds. So it is really damage limitation. We will see but imo Liquigas will continue working for the sake of it.

True. Especially if Leakys think that other teams will reel the break in anyway, they might just hit the front to protect Basso, like they've been doing in past stages

Except if the guy who is currently in 2nd place in the GC ;)
I don't see Liquigas working towards the end of the race at all.

Does 20 seconds at best make all that difference, when it comes to the grand scheme of things?

liquigas will certainly be at the front in the last 10-15 km because of the narrow roads.they won't chase before those last 15 kms though, katusha and colnago will do the job probably.

looking at how easy was going domenico today,he might attack again tomorrow.

Well, you just never know. It COULD make the difference - that's all that matters

Yes, because Purito can do the same damage few times in this Giro, and he's TTing very well.

Well, I wouldn't go as far as saying he's TTing well based on a couple decent TT's he's done. He's still gonna suck in a flat 40+ km timetrial, but so is basically all of his opposition

To be honest i think Basso can do a good job at limiting his losses tomorrow, Liquigas will almost certainly be the team on the front in the closing 10km to protect and from there it will be tough to drop him by more than 5 seconds, Scarponi put just 8 into him at the previous short uphill finish after the climb on saturday, Basso was no where at the bottom of the final ramp and came through a lot of people. If he is at the front he wont have any real issues, Rujano and Pozzevivo dont have much of a chance at all, they are going to be so far back, Astana, Liquigas, Sky, Katushya, Garmin and Lampre will dominate proceedings. There teams totally lack the fire power to get a good position in this kind of finish

J Rod or Scarponi for the win, outside chance for Kreuzinger and Tiralongo
