They know it won't stay away. Keeping Hesjedal at the front and out of trouble.
He's actually quite OK in this sort of finishes. Maybe they want to lose the pink to another team.

NO chance of the break staying away, more important to make sure Hesjedahl has a good position at the foot of the climb.
