Dutchies have no chance today.:p

Cauberg is a power climb, so an Ardennes Classics type rider has the best chance. This means Gesink is Dutch's best hope, which is pretty much nil. But I think he will be the Dutchman with the best result today.

Gesink should be a good chance for a top 10, which means he could get a medal if he's lucky.

Dutchies formed an echelon

Aaand they are gone

The road turns there. I know why they tried it there, might catch some guys off guard and soon they'll turn east where they get tailwind. But it didn't work

Ok, never thought the first 100k would be so high paced. This will be a very tough race, not so sure now that sprinters like Freire and Boonen will survive this. Anyhow, very interesting development so far.

It does make sense indeed but they give up way too early I'd say

Dutchies showing GB how it is done!

GB is not trying to form echelons though, they just riding steady pace.

Dutch went with high pace, for what ... 3 minutes ? :p And they're gone.

And yet in 3 minutes they did more than GB have done so far..

..Something meaningful

No they gave up at the right time. Group was too big after it split and the wind turns unfavorable there.

But that's not the point...

GB is riding steady pace so the break doesn't gain too much.

No point going full out and then stopping any pace at all if you want to catch the break later on, is it ?

BBC commentary team is doing quite well imo. David Millar is great, and Hugh Porter is kind of just leaving him to it, even used his start sheet to indentify some obscure riders!

Yeah its good. Just torn between Eurosport with HD and adverts, or BBC non HD , no adverts, but good commentary for once...
