This is a very good situation for Evans. Nibali put sky under pressure, and will be a nice carrot for any attacks out of the group. I think Evans did the right thing, showing some maturity in being conservative, saving some for the last bits as sky get worn out.

He don't have to save his energy, he has to go full gas, and then he will gone, on the other hand Nibali have to save himself, because if he goes full gas, and the peloton will catch him, then it's over for him.
