Or he was still hurt from his Dauphine crash and had showed no sign of getting better yet.
Look at his Dauphine perfomances and then look at his Tour so far and figure it out for yourself.

He has been recovering from his Dauphine crash and was still building his form

Exactly, and he took it easy yesterday he said, he could've finished higher up (a minute, he said) but didn't want to give it all this early in the Tour.

Verdugo has abandoned

No point for him anymore :(

Izagirre also dropped from the front. Blow to morale for sure.

shouldn't liquigas put the hammer down to shake knees and edvald, bring the break closer so sagan has a chance and then make sky work again?

Lol, Liquigas has almost never worked on the front for a Sagan victory. Why would they change a winning tactic when other teams keep making the same mistakes?

Besides, Liquigas will be a one man team next year anyway.

i did not said that.. putting smized and basso at the front so say can bring the break a bit closer, destroy knees and edvald, keep the pressure and have sagan ready to win the stage. them let the attacks begin and sky to keep working.

Sky too strong imo for that to occur

Today is the day to do it. Sky could be overconfident. They've already said they wouldn't mind loosing the Yellow Jersey today.
Sky are Very strong and it may be highly unlikely, but the way things are panning out it could be the best chance for anybody other than a Sky rider winning it.

You want to compare a performance where he didn't try, and one where he tried and was rubbish.

There is no improvement arc to believe in for Samu here.

What the f are you banging on about? He had a rubbish prep to the Tour, with a crash in the Dauphiné, a week rest after, pain after that, only just before the Tour without pain. Traditionally he is strongest in the third week, would be more so this year.

Just stop talking rubbish please.

We are not talking about Andy here, Samu tried and was woeful in the Dauphine after his crash, he may have taken it a bit easy but all it was was bruised ribs and those go away with time they dont just remain bruised.

Umm obviously Samus dauphine crash totaly ****ed everything up

But with all things equal Samu is a better tter and a better climber so he was easily a bigger favourite.

Agreed but I dont think he would have been able to improve enough without today's crash to ever better Nibali
