Well, so far this stage is living up to it's potential.
It's as if someone has thrown a bunch of hand grenades into the peloton.
A lot of riders already under the shadow of the dreaded hors delay.

Maybe Astana are going for the team classification or something like that? Though it does seem a bit too early in the Tour for that

Jelle has some feats Jurgen is sorely lacking though :)

Yeah.

I saw a man on the train who looked a lot like Jelle. My heart went out to him.

No. They simply didn't have anyone in the break.

The thing is then why are they not trying to bridge they have had enough opportunities to do so and instead they waste so much energy chasing.

Would we see exciting starts to most stages like this if the stages were shorter ??

Nothing to do with the length. Everyone knows that whoever gets into the break today has a chance to win. Simply because nobody will try to get the break back once it gets away.

it has nothing to do with it. it has to do with profiles, GC situation and expecially the riders.

i still cannot believe that we will loose vino and jans :(

That's a fact, but shorter stages are always more active than longer ones. For example, last year Huez had attacks from the start. It wouldn't happen if the stage had 200 km.
