I think Demare was a little bit surprised by the gap he had and then he started sprinting and once you have the jump it's hard to be caught. My aplogies to Degenkolb.

Seems like Eisel lost his 5th place on GC by stopping for Cav when he crashed.

Yeah Demare jumped and no one really noticed him till it was too late, good on him though it was an impressive sprint

Seems that's the case, although provisional, he can't claim that he was held up in the crash.

Renshaw is no more than the best lead-out man, but he lacks the jump.

Renshaw was staying upright and holding his position which is entirely normal, not getting a boost from a team mate who took their hands of the bars in the middle of a sprint which is extremely dangerous

Galim's team mate should be the one that is penalised anyway
