So... after todays stage, Mollema had an interesting comment about Valverde. When asked whether it was fair for Belking to ride after Valverde's flat tire, he answered that he didn't care as Valverde was far from fair in past years as well. Unless I'm missing an in-race move in the past 2 years, this sounds suspiciously like a condemnation of doping use.

Edit: nevermind my hope of omerta breaking comments got crushed already. Apparently Movistar did the same thing to Mollema a few years ago, so just a petty in race comment. Nothing to see here.

Cunego is a shadow of his former self. Look at him now, stage hunting from breakaways. Reminds me of Leipheimer, Basso and Scarponi together in a break last year. It's only been 2 years since he top 10'd the Tour.

Yeah but Cunego 2011 was already a shadow of his former self and it was a year before that that he strongly implied that he had doped earlier in his career and was no longer doing so,

Wiggins is the weak link at Sky, we saw that at the Giro.

I can see him spilling whether to clear a conscience or for other pyscological reasons, it will be of no great surprise if it and when it happens.

Like Hitch said. Won't happpen. Yes I know benotti69 is banned but a response is needed.

I said last year, if Sky go down and dirt appears on Wiggins, get him locked up and take his shoe laces away. He is the type. Make no mistake on that.

As for Cunego...what about Basso? He's dropped off the face of the planet. Evans is still going. Albeit not as well, but he's still strong-ish. The Italians have ALL burnt out. All of them. Much respect to the Italians and CONI from me. I think they're doing a fantastic job.

Nibali is another story. But I will still cheer. Panache and guts. He has enough to go around. Will win the worlds and if he doesn't Cancellara will. Or maybe Sagan. Oh God, please don't let Simon Gerrans win! Please!!!

So now apparently he is the shadow of a shadow:D. Cannot even match Hoogerland

It is Johnny Testoseronny after all! He who gets knocked off his bike by a car and falls into a barbed wire fence, has countless stitches and STILL rides on.

Kind of like Vino in 2007. We all know how that gig rolled. Cunego deserves a little slack. The feds at CONI in Italy scared the living crap out of Lampre last year and this year. There is a reason they are crap. ;)

Record setting TTT.

Cannondale pulls past three other teams like a train to put Sagan up front.

Froome sets an EPO era time up Ax 3.

Hmmm.

Add to the list:

Froome climbs Ventoux only 2 seconds off Lance Armstrong's 2002 juiced to the gills time.

ASO/UCI has waved the green flag to resume the doping arms race.

Armstrong was already a top rider before he had cancer though, albeit in one day races. Froome could barely sit on a bike before he started doping in 2011.
At least Armstrong had the courtesy to win World's, a couple of classics, some TdF stages and Nationals before going Full ***. That's what gave his story life - it was almost plausible.

Ironically BBC radios big 2 hour profile of the Armstrong saga a few months ago, which got mentioned a lot here, began with the question

- when you look at lance Armstrong before he won the tour de France this was not a guy who was suited for the tour de France. He did not perform well in the gc on any of the editions he raced before 1999. In hindsight it should be no surprise that he was doped. We should have all known when suddenly he started being a contender and beating everyone at the tour that this could only be the result of peds. Right?

(Obviously paraphrased but I remember it well because the alarm bells - hang on. Wiggins!!!?Were pretty loud.)

And from what I see these days, it was a one off moment of enlightment for the BBC.

The record of Sastre is still untouchable, for 18 sec this time.
Sastre did it alone, so worth more.

But today maybe was the second time of a clean cycling, and that is amazing for a young rider.

Purito was the best climber of the world, but today is Quintana already.
A pity the crash of Purito, He could have won this Tour... but cycling is like that.

Which time did you use. I read that Quintana got timed later than usual, so his climbing time will maybe be adjusted upwards.

This tour has to be one of the dirtiest in recent times

Quintanas climb just adds to the farce

Personally, I think doping-wise we're on the 2006-2008 level. Not as bad as before that, but nowhere near close to being a clean or cleanish peloton.
