It would be smart for Sky to 'give' this to Porte, to make sure Porte works for Froome in the Tour. Good as Porte is, he isn't good enough (yet...) to win the Tour, while Froome is.

Porte and Froome are apparently good mates so he will most likely play loyal domestique for him. At the Tour that is

In that kind of shape and at the age of 28 Porte has no time to waste playing the domestique, guy needs to put pressure on sky to give him a free role at the tour, beating froome today would do that.

Porte could grow a set of wings and fly, pegasus style, to the finish - it won't change the sky methodology. They'll just stick a new column called 'flight' into the spreadsheet.

If Porte REALY shows, both here and in Le tour, they may well give him La Vuelta...with iggins 33, ther's a vacancy approaching; Porte'll wait for it.
