Santambrogio and Sioutsou.

But seriously, 70% of other giro contenders isn't even here...

70% who Hesjedal (poor mans Wiggins), Sanchez (no form) and Wiggins super domestique aka Uran or Henao. The main contenders were there Wiggins, Nibali, Basso, Scarponi, Pozzovivo, and Evans (is he going isn't he?)

Hesjedal, Gesink and Henao?

Gesink?!? LOL ... a bottler, who's golden future is all behind him.

Henao? ... a youngster with a potentially golden future ahead of him, but no chance this year.

Hesjedal? ... I've always had a soft spot for him, but he won last year against the weakest Giro field in a generation. He may be worth a punt if the bookies are offering good odds, but he's shown little this year and none of the old captains are going to give him any latitude this time.

Nibali won a Vuelta with the weakest field ever, so that makes two of them. Hesjedal beat Scarponi, whom Nibali was unable to beat the last time he did the Giro.

The fact that Hesjedal has shown little this year doesn't really matter, last year was similar. The fact that he still got 20th or something yesterday in Fleche after his bad luck shows that the form is coming around nicely.

By my count that's the 2495th time the "weak field" argument has been rolled out on the CN forum.

You can only beat who's there.

I gotta say that Purito did look better in the Vuelta. He probably learned from the year before, where he was great in the final Giro week and the Dauphiné, and then properly cooked at the end of the Vuelta.

he was sick and on anti biotics in the giro 2011 until the very last week in which he improved

Cavendish, Goss and little more.
Stage 1, 6, 12 and 21 to finish in a bunch sprint.
Thanks, reckon Cavendish could get at least 2 of them, with Goss or one of the other sprinters (Degenkolb, Viviani or one of the FDJ boys) getting one or two between them. Is Sagan going at all or is he waiting for the TDF?

Re: Ryder Hesjedal,

Re: comments #951, 952 & 953 about Hesjedal,

Right, last year's build up was similar...

And one thing to remember is that Ryder progresses and gets better into the 3rd week when those 5 (of 6) MTF's hit.

Also it seems Hesjedal's build is better suited for harsh Giro weather, than some other racers.
