It's expected quite a lot of snow on Saturday, while on Sunday it should be better but still a light snow is possible. Temperature below 0°C at the top. The risk the Giro will stop at Valloire is huge.
Then there would be at least one mountain stage ending with a descent

maybe because he lost santa out of his reach and he thought i better take those than some of santa's rivals

anyway we'll see today who is stronger, killer or santambrogio.

from today's gazzetta:

nibali will ride with 39X29
wiggo with 36x28

wiggo wants to be smooth today

Shouldn't Nibali be using a compac as well? 39x29 just feels like too little for that very long over 20% (according to Dan Lloyd) section of the last climb.

If he rides 4.6 % faster than Wiggo on the steep stuff (not that unlikely) they'll have the same cadence.

They better start now as it looks like there will be no Galibier finish. :(

yeah when i previewed each of stages I did some reading on the Galibier its often been closed 4-5km from the top in May, and given lack of recent sun i very much doubt its open at the moment.

based on what? past performance? The climbing of this year Giro has not started yet.

Great climbing and consitency at his first Giro ever despite being dom for Uran, then incredible perormaces in Poland,Burgos...great results at WC and Lombardia(bad weather - important at this Giro). This season immediate success at Algarve - with almost no condition, then great PV - very comfortable in mountains, lost cos of TT,great perf. at Fleche(which I call classic for climbers).Thats pretty credible improvement from last May,and he lost weight.Who can outclimb him Nibali,Evans or who?Imo he will be the best climber at this Giro.

Spending cash can open the road, but if it snows at the same time (or a day before the race starts) its game over.

I can't remember where I read it (possibly here), but supposedly they're using dynamite to clear the snow from the roads - which sounds kinda cool. :D

seems like the weather will be fine, no rain predicted
those two climbs are wonderful, hopefully the riders will be at the same level as these places are. a repeat of last year's giro would be disgusting

sky must do something. vini fantini and colombians ftw!!

I feel like they are in a funny situation, they might be damned if they do and damned if they don't.

Sky Train is Plan A surely, but riders are wise to it now, and it takes the pressure off Nibali and Astana. Just survive the pace then attack Wiggins in the final few kms to take time. But if they do nothing then they are relying on another team to take up the pace and control the bunch, which could potentially hurt Wiggins. Constant attacks with changes of pace up varying gradients interspersed with a tricky descent is pretty much his idea of hell.

It's nice that we'll be able to see pretty much the whole stage, except for that first little hill, but highly unlikely to see any GC action before the last 15k, eh?
I think the real GC attacks will start at 5 to go. On the Cason Di Lanza someone further behind in GC could make a move, though.
EDIT: Attacks to start at the TV at the final climb, where people will try to get 6'' bonus.

You consider Brutt the best climber of that group:confused:

no but katusha is going awesome in this giro so expect him to attack in the descend , put three minutes in the valley and then lose time on the final climb but win:p

with all due respect to machado and turbo diesel, this is a weak breakaway...all the sprinters there lol
i would love though if hesjedal will fly early and it is a garmin plan
